I can't read the tag on the side of the differential so is there a way to verify that's its "Open" or "LSD"
Thanks

1 - Read tag attached to Diff - check BMWE34.net

2 - Lift rear end. Spin wheel. If other wheel turns opposite direction, its an open diff.

couple of ways.

-lift one rear wheel up. gearbox in neutral. try to spin the wheel, if you can do it, it's open, if you can't or it goes hard, it's lsd.

-lift both wheels up. gearbox in neutral. turn one wheel. if the other one is spinning in the opposite direction, OPEN diff, if it goes in the same direction, LSD.

-try to make donuts.

You can also easily remove the tag, clean it up & read it. Thats what I did last week on our 95 Touring. Turns out its got an open 4.27 diff. Since the car has the ASC&T it's a non issue as that seems to work better on ice & snow then the limited slip in my 535i.

Pull a wheelie, if it tracks straight its LSD if you hit the guardrail its non LSD.
