I destroyed my hood today :(

I was parking my truck infront of my house and I ran the bumper up onto the hood. It's a rockcrawler truck on 37" tires and I had both dogs in the bed so i was totally distracted. Of coarse the truck is fine but my hood is totalled. I'm not sure if i should buy a junk yard hood and paint it or have the hood fixed.

I would go for a junkyard hood preferable the same color so the underside matches. You could also just have it Bondoed and sprayed.

The plastic BMW piece actually did come loose and is broken. The hood is gouged soo deep i think a replacement is my only option. I'll take it to a Body shop on monday and see what they quote me. However yes i am very glad the truck wasn't any lower cause it would have had no trouble caving the front grill and radiator in. Still it crushes me because i am always soo carefull with this car and have never been in a wreck. Yet I bash two of my own vehicles together....

And don't do a CF hood.

Best advice was to find a same-color junkyard hood.

Is it really that easy to find a junkyard hood that matches? Just askin. My one experience was going to a pull-your-parts and it didn't have any e34s. Didn't have but one 7 series.

Curleyman--I noticed in your profile that you work for a moving company. Do you get discount shipping? If so, you might want to check with Rigmaster (http://www.bimmer.info/forum/member.php?u=295). He has a farm in NC that grows old bmws. He might have one.

I will have to keep all of that in mind... infact i myself may be on the east coast soon. I will not however bondo and paint, The car means alot to me. I'll take the time and do it right... Thanks for the input i'll get an estimate tomorrow, I do have full coverage so...

Ok well the repair firm said they can do it for 1600 bucks. This would include buying a new unpainted hood $500 the painting, installing, and matching the paint to my 12 year old paint.. I'll go see if I can find one at the junk yard first..

I stopped at Rigmaster's farm back in December to pick up a door. Quite a sight but he has thinned out the collection since that photo was taken.

Ok i'll keep that in mind let me see if I can find one locally first. I think i can find one unpainted for under 500. Oh and for what it matters repairing the hood is more difficult then it looks. The hood is composed of aluminum and cannot be hammered flat.
