This morning this peice wouldnt run correctly. It ran fine last night. It will start up and run REALLY bad and idle at 500rpms then if you give it gas it will die. WTF? When i turn off the key it says low coolant and oil sensor level, but i added some water and added some oil(which was fine already)

Ah, I see how this works. I must use ESP to determine what car you have. *Concentrating...* *Concentrating...* Ah HAH! It's a 1978 Datsun B210!

Therefore, I suspect a carburetor problem.

Ah, my mistake. On the other site it says. Its a 89' 535iM.

Bogus warnings and bad running may be from a failing battery and/or charging system. Check it first.

Dude.........My cousin had one of those. That thing was sweet. It was pretty quick, and it took turns like it was on rails. Had alot of carburator probs though.

yea, I know it has a brand new battery but i cant drive it anywhere to get the alternator checked. I would check the engine light codes, but im under the assumption that 88-89 dont have bulbs in there for it to light up. Which makes no sense. And should the light come on whiles its running like a normal car? When i put the key in the ignition i can see the light come on, but not while running.

Which light? The Check Engine light or the charge failure light?

Check engine

If the Check Engine light lights on start, the stomp test should work to obtain the codes.

So if there something wrong it doesnt light up while its on? Only when you turn the key to acc with out starting?

DaveVoorhis

If it's throwing codes, it should light while the car is running. There may be stored codes, however, that can be obtained via the stomp test, in case it lit briefly while running but you didn't notice.

Your problem sounds like a battery problem, however. A new battery sounds a bit suspicious -- checked the battery connectors? Might be loose.

Yea, I checked em already.

Charge the battery overnight. See if the problem's gone in the morning.

I just checked and there are no check engine lights! Whats going on? Could this thing cause it? I have noticed it likes to make alot of noise.

Low voltage or bad fuel pump/fuel pump regulater/clogged filter/clogged pickup screen.

The Check Engine light is not a diagnostic magician. It reports what it's design to report, which isn't everything, or even very much on the older vehicles.

That's the idle control valve. It regulates your idle speed. They can stick and/or get clogged with gunk.

The Throttle Position Sensor is another possible culprit, as is your Air Flow Meter, fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator (see Jeff Bidoli's post, above), Oxygen Sensor (if it's got one), the Crank Position Sensor, and so on. And weird stuff, like somebody's stuck a potato or sock in your tailpipe, or a squirrel's made a nest in your air intake.

The bogus oil and water level warnings suggest low system voltage, however.

I know the fuel pump has been replaced so it cant be that, but ill try jumping it and seeing...

Turns out i guess it was the alternator. I hooked it up to another car and it was doing fine! Where to get another alternator?

What could it be if its not the fuel pump? maybe just a clog? I need to run some cleaner stuff through it.

try checking for clogged air filter, broken vacumm hoses or the idle valve
