I don't go much on the wood trim on my car, I can live with the door cappings, but that part around the shifter is sickly. E39's seem to have an option for this metal trim, can you get that for the E34 ? I really don't want that nasty stick-on mock carbon stuff or similar. Even just buying a sheet of brushed aluminium and maker a shifter surround would make it better in my eyes.Unless of course you guys know of something better ..

I would think that you can only get that effect if you make it yourself ie. get that sheet of brushed aluminium, get a template and see if it works out.

There is a product called Gravoply that is used for engraved signage.
It comes in a zillion colors including a few metallics that approximate brushed aluminum or brass etc. It's plastic and easy to cut.
Since our shifter surrounds are flat this might work for you. Forming it to other shapes is up to you.
Look for it where engraved signs are made. The kind like the nameplates for a desk.

One of my friends had the wood in his E39 removed and painted 'piano black'... ie really shiny, deep gloss black!!

It looks hot, considering the car itself was a black 530is with terracotta leather!!
