Bimmerfest is on Cinco de Mayo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo) this year, so it will be bimmerfiesta. This year the adult beverages in the blue cups will be margaritas. :D Santa Barbara will be crawling with people because, after all, who does not love an opportunity to celebrate beating the French, no matter who it is that beat them. (No insult intended to our French member.)

The cool kids are staying here (http://reservations.beachcalifornia.com/1066_hotel-info_h2624.html)

Party!

You can get a room for $157 or a 2-room 3-bed suite for $223. It is one of the few places you don't have to book a 2 night minimum. If you think you want to stay overnight, I would recommend booking now as there won't be any rooms available in the not too distant future.

No Bimmerfest this year for me :(

I have a field trip in my water resources class that takes up that entire weekend. I get to see a bunch of lakes, river beds and dams...wooo. You guys are going to have to promise not to have too much fun.

Since I'm not going to be able to make it to Bimmerfest, I'm trying to get an E34 meet together on March 11th somewhere up here in the Bay Area. I've got about 55 names right now, so if any of you San Diegans are interested in coming up, that would make it all the more interesting!

Not everyone can be the fortunate owner of a narrow grill. We need more e34s this year. Last year there were only 26 e34s registered out of 1500 bmws and 3000+ attendees.

Cold pizza rules. Do we need another lengthy meaningless thread this year to decide what's for lunch?

I'll probly be staying in Camarillo. Can't afford these $150/night rooms.

WOW....its time for West Coast e34 meet to step it up and compare to that lil Chicago shindig.

I think this year, we'll try to head into bfest with the baybimmerz crew? and park together next to them.

I was going to say "Stock orange corners--what kind of girl do you think I am?"

But then I saw this picture. Oh. Now I know why you thought that. The lights are on. That was a 30 sec stop in a swoop-by to pick up Josh. And that is the exact moment that I developed paint envy. His car is soooo gorgeous. I thought my paint was absolutely fine prior to that moment.:(

Amber on front all the way. Seriously for some unknown reason it looks a lot better when you highlight that corner on the e34. I wonder if the newer alpine whites have a better paint job. Yeah Josh, your car looks perfect at the moment.

I have seen some pretty cheap round trip airfaire from London to LA lately. Like $350. And with the exchange rates so much in your favor it might not cost that much. You can go to meets without your car. Bimmerd00d and I have flown in to harass the locals at various meets and we have not shipped our cars on those occasions. In Chicago, I drove bimmernut Ed's daughter's e34 to the meet.

This offer goes to you or anyone else on the forum. You get yourself to LA the day before the meet and I will get you to bimmerfest. Liquidtiger will let you sleep on his hotel room floor in Camarillo. :)

May huh.

I wonder if the hotel californian is still open on state? I remember a certain show in 86 that was cancelled in ventura that Jerry couldn't make and we all wound up in that hotel. I think it's the hotel santa barbara now, but it was a short walk from the pier and was super cool.

If the elekta gets converted in cali, this may be a good first stop on the way home.

$350 from London - works out at around £175 :D
Thats not bad at all really, although unfortunately it'll most likely cost the same again to get from here to London & back :( The joys of living on a 'tax haven' island - nothing's cheap..
It also probably won't help that I'm only working part time at the moment - just enough to cover the bills.. :(

Next year though....! :D

ooh, that last photo looks like 1980 at the saenger in nola, with the surprise acoustic 3rd set. we thought that show was so awesome when they played there again in 82, we went again and it was one of the worst.....not the best at what they do.....

the californian with an n, is a great spot. If it is anywhere close to the bimmerfest, I may be in. I wish it were earlier though. my m5t should be ready in march.

It'd be fun to bring the 530iT out to the fest, pick up the elekta, and sell the slush box, and rip some cayshe all the way home...but not before a few choice side by side pics

Bimmernut Ed managed to get both of his e34s to the meet last summer. An e34 enthusiast who flew in sans e34 drove one of them. Why don't you drive the e36 and get someone else to drive the 540/6 for you? Maybe bimmerd00d. D00d--you coming this year?

Your wife probably would not have a good time at bimmer.fest. Last year SC David's girlfriend spend the day in the car reading a magazine.

My husband is planning on going and I don't want him to. I figure after an hour he will say "can we go now?" and I'll say "no dear, we can't go now. Do we need to call you a cab?"

Ahh! Bragger! It was like you were royalty when you arrived last year in the white M5 making the straight piped eisenmann scream. An encore is tough with a pathetic stable of cars like that, but I'm sure you will manage.

You know...There are movie stars who change their outfits several times at an event. You could do that with your cars. Have your son drive one to get it there. You could probably twist someone's arm to drive another one...someone who feels sorry for you. And of course, you could drive one yourself. (Please tell me you don't have a chauffeur). Then you preside over the admiring throngs at one in the early morning, another mid-day, and another late afternoon.

I do think we will try to organize the e34s to enter and park again together this year. If you want to slum it, you are welcome to join us. :p

Gayle,

It's good to see the valley hasn't taken away your sense of humor. I lived in Bakers-hell for 23 years. My sons were pretty cool with driving my cars until the last week. My oldest bought an e30 M3 and my youngest bought an e36 M3. They're proud papas now and will be driving their cars. I may be stuck driving my M5. Someone has made a very good offer on the Alpina. It's one that's going to be hard to pass up.

So that is how an addiction starts. An M here, and M there, and the next thing you know, you have a collection.

BTW, Bako is testing my sense of humor tonight. I like to get out of town every weekend, and the locals keep telling me horror stories about sudden closures of 5 through the grapevine when it rains (snows) or Zonies who hit ice and die going through Mojave. I now have the Caltrans road closure number in speed dial.

And I now know more than I ever wanted to about fog and smog. Yesterday's interesting fact was that Bako smog comes from the bay area instead of LA. So Greg, how did you escape? Today the locals were telling me how this place is a vortex and everyone who leaves comes back. It seems true. I just don't get why people love living here.

M5Greg
02-26-2007, 08:10 PM
I remember the best part about living there was "It's so close to other places". You're close to the beach, the mountains, LA, or San Francisco. I thought to myself, why not just move to one of those places? When I go to a restaurant people always ask "How do you decide so quickly?" I simply stop looking once I see something I like and I don't look back. Bako was nice but I found something better, at least for me. I still have a ton of family in Bako so I have to visit often. My ex and I were talking about Bako last night. She got out also. There's a smell that most residents have gotten used to. Once you get away and then visit you notice it. I asked a niece who goes to BHS how many of her friends had done meth. I was shocked that she said "Why all my friends have tried meth" like I was completely out of touch.

That being said there are some very nice areas in Bako. I like the Edwards Theatres and I usually stop at that Starbucks.

I'll contact you guys the next time I come to town.

I live a block south of BHS on Oleander. I had to walk around the block cause I had locked myself out of the garage. I found 5 students smoking pot on the sidewalk and 3 having sex in the bushes. It was funny how embarrassed they were.

Do get in touch if you are going to be in town. Maybe we can go watch crazy tim and crazy kim at buttonwillow. I have no desire to put the 535 on the track and I guess you feel that way about the M5, but it could be fun to be a spectator.

Crazy Tim and Kim will be making random appearances at Buttonwillow throughout the year, Kim's pushing some norcal track tour involving sears point, laguna seca, and thunderhill... stay tuned.

How long you in LA, and where? We'll probably head up to SB on Fri late morning like we always do... PM me at the "other" board, we'll figure stuff out.

Sad news.

I'm really really really bummed about it...but I won't be able to make it to bimmerfest.

It's smack in the middle of my midterms, and I not too gifted school wise. In light of that, I decided that it would be best if I cancelled my trip.

I live a block south of BHS on Oleander. I had to walk around the block cause I had locked myself out of the garage. I found 5 students smoking pot on the sidewalk and 3 having sex in the bushes. It was funny how embarrassed they were.

What a horny little school. I found out a friend of mine had sex on our English teacher's desk about 50 times through the years. With one of the hottest cheerleaders at the school. Lucky bastard.

I stopped in town Saturday. I drove up and down Oleander looking for your car. I felt like a stalker. BTW, what a small world. I grew up a few houses off Oleander on Cherry street. Have you been to Dewars for ice cream? It's an old fashioned ice cream parlor off of California Ave.

Well, my elekta M5T is gonna miss the Fest unfortunately.

Here are some pics I got today from Cali, where the conversion guys just picked it up from Port Hueneme and brought it to Richmond.

There are two cars in front of me and it won't be until a week or two after the fest that I will pick it up for my first tour back to austin in it. Not surfing this thread too often so PM me if you need something....like maybe to buy my euro spec 530iT

I would say the bimmer.info attendence at bimmer-fiesta is going to be pretty small this year.

My company is sending me to a conference in Vegas so I won't be able to attend. :(

And Greg--you would not see my e34 on the street. She sleeps most of the week in a 2 car garage she has all to her self. (But FYI, I live in the brick apartment complex with the pool in front that is 2 doors north of that giant estate with the wrought iron fence). You probably party'd there when you were in hs. Once a driller, always a driller?

You lucky dog. I'm going to Richmond to drop off some paper work for my M5T #1. I look forward to checking out your car.
