View Full Version : Fan belt noise

My fan belts seem to make a 'whinning' noise. They are somewhat new, but not sure of the 'quality' of them, if that matters. I can use a wax type substance on the belt to eliminate the noise, but only for a short while. I'm wondering of the alignment of the belt is a bit off, and may be causing the problem? I have checked each for tight / loose fit, and each one pushes in about 1/2" in the center of the span, so I think they are OK. I have NOT tried to adjust them (looser and tighter) to see if that fixes the problem - as they seem fine.

Suggestions?

Sounds like they are glazed. Some brake cleaner spray will remove the "wax type" substance. A bit loose too I'll bet. Low quality belts stretch quickly, sometimes a tightening will last after the initial stretch.

Thanks, perhaps glazed as you say, had not thought of this. I will check and tighten a bit.
