Bought a kit there for a 4HP24 E9 trans for an Alpina B12 5.0 E32.
ZF code
1043 030 040
We had a spare trans and the owner already prepared the spare trans with the new valves.
Then on Saturday we did the 'big operation', 4 E32 fans and DIYers. Had a pit and a hydraulic trans lifter, that was very helpful.
Started at 8 AM, we had the exhaust and driveshaft and trans out at 12, ready for lunch :)

New trans in by 6 PM and the big moment was there. Refilled new trans oil and engine was started.
Nothing moved at all, no R, not any other gear :(

At 8 PM we gave up for that day and wanted to start Sunday lunch time.
Then I got an email as following:

This morning I started checking.
First thing I checked was solenoid resistance from connector pins.
Everything looked OK so there was no chance of internal wiring fault.
Then checked oil pump pressure by undoing pressure check hole bolt.
Oil came out strongly when engine is turning so I judged oil pump is
working.
Then I wanted to swap valve body, I started to take off oil pan.
Opening oil pan and checked shift link, Ohhhhhh I found link was not
properly seated to its position.
I assembled valve body wrongly.
I took off valve body and reassembled gear shift link part correctly and
put it back.
Now it works OK. Car moves back and forth by changing gear.

All effort we made yesterday was now rewarded.
I drove to Highway for 30 minutes and everything looks OK.
No oil leak, no hard shock when shifting 3rd to 4th, 4th to lock up.
All the problem I had on old transmission was now fixed.

Thank you volks, sorry this trouble caused by my mistake.

Just do the valve body repair on your own, for your trans model I have the complete write-up on my website, see valve body rebuild.

If I can do it, you can do it too :)

I also used this company. They were very fast and had good communication with lots of parts in stock :)

We bought some more stuff from them, do not remember exactly, but I guess 250 or 300 $.

B12 engine?
My friend, last week I bought a crashed Alpina B12 5.0, has only 84.000 km. :D
Comes into our hall where we have the other B12.
Not sure what we do, either repair or part.

that's itchy :P .. how much would u estimate the engine price when sold as is? would it fit my auto tranny or do I need a manual tranny?

No idea what the engine would cost, but as only about 220 E32 Alpina 5.0 have been produced, they will be probably quite high, actually all used parts which are original Alpina are always pricy. But I do not want to sell any parts.
The E32 Alpina 750 came from factory with auto trans. The only difference is the E9 4 HP24 with a bigger torque converter as used on the 750iL and the Alpina B12, they lock already from second gear. I believe they anly difference is that plus a different solenoid for the lock, have compared the parts lists.

so that would make the original auto tranny on the E31 work with the B12 engine without any problem I guess. is the B12 engine totally different from the M70? or it's the heads only?

Basis is the M70B50 engine as in every E32 750. Not sure what all has been modified, probably different cams, polished intakes or widened and things like that. Exhaust is also different I have seen now. Instead of the standard cats it has much smaller ones like on the 850.
Wait a minute, here is the Alpina parts catalog, and you can see all parts which are there and they should be different from the standard M70 engine. List is in German but the pics will tell you.

I can't see major difference in the M70 engine, but is smaller exhaust cast better? or wider? I guess the B12 is almost 400BHP right, thats all from camshafts and chip with intakes? thats a little hard to believe or maybe cuz it's a V12? which brings us to the main question, is the HP out of the conventional V12 normal or is it a detuned engine?

The Alpina B12 has 360 HP. And the smaller cat means it is a metal cat in sports version = brings also some more HP. All the small things make the difference of 60 HP.
The normal M70 engine's 300 HP is a bit on the low side, see the compression, engine runs with normal fuel.
A 6-cylinder 735 already has more than 200 HP, and that is a 3.5 Ltr engine and the M70 is 5 Ltr.
Of course the design is different.
But the M70 engine was never meant to be a nervous tuned high HP engine, it was more layed out for the comfortable but fast cruising, also the 850 is not a real sports car, it is in my opinion a comfortable 2-seater cruiser/sports car mixture.

the 850 is not a sport car I already read that, but after driving it, it's not like a sedan car either, it should have a different category. for me I wont mind having more HP out of the V12 engine, I simply calculated it once, that if it's a 2 X 6 inline 2.5L engines it should be at least 350HP so I guess there is some ways to get them out.

I have seen Hamann 5 series using the V12 engine and getting around 400HP out of it, so it's like many other companies are interested in the V12 as a sports engine.

after all I'm not really intending to mess up with this engine for now, but if a chip can get me something up to 30HP more that would be grate.

The 750 has a restriced intake. That is why the intakes from the 850 (I think it is Csi) are much thought after.
Serious chip tuners like Dinan or Landzer in Germany promise plus 30 HP and plus 30 Nm. Plus they usually deliver the EML module chip to cancel the 250 kmh limit.
And then there are the cheap ones for 49 EURO for the 8 series like this one

Be sure to order for the right MOTRONIC part number.
