BMW 535i 1991 batteryh dead and doors locked

I got some great info from your site in one of the forums on locked doors and dead batteries. Like others, my car's battery completely died and would not let me in to charge battery etc.
Tried the factory default emergency idea and got no-where. After desperately ringing all the experts - BMW, auto electricians - BMW dealer said I had to smash a window - I eventually tried a car charger with the negative clip on the engine and the positive on the starter motor terminal.
I knew it was doing something as the alarm lights came on immediately on the dash. In the morning, the car opened and it had quite a bit of charge in the battery.

Thanks for your great ideas. What could have cost me hundreds, cost me nothing but my own time.

cant believe the dealer told u that, my car died last month and the dealer told me about the started method, worked great.

As i know you can allso pull the door handle up and try to unlock the door.It works on my car.
