Hi !
Recently at the gas station I calculated my average mpg and while 26 highway seems reasonable for my m20 525i on stick, the 19mpg I got in the city driving seems a little low !!!
Since I bought the car from a guy that didn't really care for it so I assume that o2 sensor could be faulty, but right now I don't really have the funds to replace it.
Would it help if I used some gas treatment/engine cleaning chemicals to improve my engine performance and economy ? What kind of stuff do you guys recommend to use in 174k miles m20 engine ??
Thanks,
Dan

BMW's product brochure states that EPA mileage for your car is 17 City and 23 highway. We are talking about a 14 or 15 year old car design without variable valve timing, here. I wonder upon what data you were basing your more lofty expectations.

I remember reading somewhere on this forum (but maybe it was m50 525i) that someone was getting 21/28 mpg.
But if what you say is correct than I am above the factory data.
Oh, and actually the engine design is more like 20 years old !
Thanks,
Dan

The m50's were made to be more fuel efficient, quite a bit was done on improvement for gas mileage.
