View Full Version : Vibration on M60B40 540i/6... pulleys? water pump? bearings?

I'm getting a cyclical vibration from probably 1500 to almost 3000 rpm, most noticable around 2200. It's motor-based, not center bearing/guibo/whatever, cuz it'll do it sitting at a stop sign in neutral, clutch in, it'll vibrate/resonate.

The water pump has bad bearings, the fan has a lot of wobble, so I'm changing that this weekend, along with a new radiator (old one's leaking)... could that be causing my problem? I also have heard this vibration is normal (poor V8 balance), and bad motor mounts can exaggerate the symptoms, and I know my mounts are shot (if I rev it in neutral, it REALLY rocks back and forth.

Any other ideas?

completely normal on the M60, the 3.0 is about the same rpms maybe a little lower on the high end vibration. It is impossible to make a 45degree V8 balance all through the range so the vibrations have to go somewhere. If it vibrated at say 5000 rpms it would blow up.
