Now that both headlights are wired, I have to get rid of the low beam warning in the matrix and mount the ballast permanently. I opened up the garage door and couldn't believe how it lit up the court with that clean white light. It sure will be easier driving at night now.

Just wanted to show the difference to you guys and gal with a side by side comparison.

The yellow band at the bottom are the foglights...

JR what headlights are you running - doesn't look like a euro cut off so it's probably a 9005 or 9006 HID kit. I notice you've got quite a hot-spot in the center there.

As a comparison 4300K bulbs on Euro Ellipsoids. They are a lot brighter than what the CCD can pick up.

EDIT above: they are HID bulbs.

US spec Hella Ellipsoids. 9006 rebased Philips 4300k xenons, with BMW Hella ballasts. The garage door is 3 feet away and the cut-off line is right at 23" above the floor without any adjustment yet. Now that both of them are in, it looks like the drivers side needs to be adjusted toward center. I wanted to wait till I got the rest of the suspension work completed before I adjusted them though.

I know it looks wierd doesn't it? That was the second time they had been fired. Maybe they'll cool down some after a while. I'd love to take it out after they are adjusted properly, but it's freezing rain here at the moment.

Look carefully directly under the bright spot where the yellow band is at, there's the shape of a little mushroom. What the heck is that?

if the camera got the exposure right that is an AMAZING difference.I was contemplating some plus 30 or plus 50 phillips the other day but that picture makes me think that HID is a must.

That's really the difference. HID is so worth it... I run it on every car I own. :)

Tim's right. The difference is literally night and day. As I'm getting older, I find I need MORE light, especially after driving Lori's E39 with xenons back from the college one night. It was then I decided to research HID's for the M5, now I want to put them in the 318iS. The clear white light illuminates and throws into the darkness like nothing else.

Cost can be a factor, but if you aquire what you need over time, it's definately money well spent.

OK i am gonna research this.I have rhd EE with H1 bulbs......Have any of you guys used an H1 bulb based kit?I want to ensure that it causes no grief to other road users whatso ever!

My E30 had HID. :)

What type of system are you doing for the 540? ....or did you rob the eyes out of the 535? ;)

Bought another set of headlights with better reflector housings. Spraypainting the lenses with chip guard clear coat to fill in the pits and give em a like new finish (http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=27634), swapping the HID's over, and selling off my old set of E34s. New ones had a spare set of reflector/projector assemblies included, so I'll replace the old pitted ones before I sell the old set off.

But yea, euros w/HID. Maybe 6000k, maybe 4300k, haven't decided yet.

4300k, i got mine somewhat adjusted tonight and pulled up next to a what looked liek 600k 4300 looks better stock and not pimp just nice and smooth
