left parking and tail light issue

about time I come here and ask for help :D

checked bulbs and fuses...
fuse #4 is the culprit location, only getting 9 volts at the socket and cant figure out why, any ID's? #5 is the right side and thats getting 12 volts. I suck at electrical problems so your going to have to hold my hand, that language "pin x and pin x" stuff is beyond me.

I have thrown cars away with electrical gremlins and cant afford to do that at this prosperous time...

One of these colorful cubes is broken

no relay for those lamps unless it is a Canadian model.
Power comes from Power distribution block to the fuse, through the switch then out to the lights.
Is there only 9v at the left rear sidemarker? If not then check the grounds at the rear lamp.

If you find electrical issues that hard perhaps an auto electrician is worth a visit...just give him firm ground(no pun intended)rules

no but found out something interesting. If I switch the lights to full on the lights work, even if I go back to just parking lights, all is fine. If I go to the 1st park light position they wont light and get the dash message. Sound like the switch?

I've got this intermittent fault with my E34 520i (UK version). The fuse (no.4) for the side lights (parking lights) on the passenger side blows every so often. And when you try to replace the fuse, it blows instantly - before you've even had time to settle it in it's place. But sometimes, only sometimes, it'll be fine and will go in there no problems and everything is hunky dory.

I know nothing about car electrics so I took it to an auto electrician who couldn't find the problem but put isolation circuits in so separating the front side light from the back side light. A few months on now and they've both gone again. So basically he did f*** all.

Earlier in this thread someone mentioned that it could be a relay. If it is then thats cool as I can just buy a new on and sack off the auto electrician (who is scheduled to to have another go at my car on Friday).

Any other advice would be great but I'm not solder soldier so bare with me if I don't understand.
