I have a 1990 535iA, no owner's manual. My battery just died, will not hold a charge, smells like bad eggs. Replacement required.

Here in lies my dilemma. The battery was changed by the previous owner 3yrs ago (1 year before I got it). I have the warranty paperwork, as the battery is covered for 6 yrs, but the battery in the car is 72/750cca. I looked on Interstate Batteries and they suggest 850cca. What is factory spec? Is it okay if I replace the battery for free under warranty and stay with the 750cca? It's obviously worked well enough for the last 3 years.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

Autozone has a great battery for e34s for about $75 US. It is made by Johnson controls. Perhaps you can upgrade with interstate if you are warrenting the battery. Or if the wrong battery was installed, perhaps they will replace it with the correct one under warrenty.
