Looks nice, but $15000... Seems a little steep.... Perhaps the engine gurus can say if it's worth it... I'm no guru but IMHO, for that much cash, I'd look for an M5...

lots of work there, definetly built to run hard. machining is very very expensive.

$15 000 dollars for 300 hp? That's a terrible deal. For that kind of investment, you should be looking at at least 450-500 streetable hp. They say at 1 bar you are making 450....why not advertise that in the auction title?

500 hp crate engines can be had direct from the manufacturer for well under 15k!

My thoughts exactly... It will be fun to see if he gets what he wants...

No matter how you like at it, it's an M20...

for that price i'd expect all the pistons to be at least thermal barrier coated

Holy crap.... Someone has their head in the clouds. For that kind of cash, I can probably get my 525iT into the low 12's or 11's in the 1/4 and have it streetable, and have a nice paintjob.

And probably get me another 525iT to play with....

I suspect that the customer at this "build to order" shop also decided $15k was a poor value, hence the shop now offering it.
Fifteen Gs buys a lot of nitrous and junkyard motors.

Oh come on it's bulletproof, but it's not meant to be turned into that...

My M20 isn't supposed to be ipressive, it's just supposed to be reliable as hell without much to deal with (properly maintained of course).

It's an early M20. The distributor is on the side of the block, not at the front of the cam. You could build the same spec engine here in the UK for a LOT less.

5 speed trans, $500, DIY install
huge turbo set up, $6k
new wheels/tires $2500

new (old) 525iT $3000

3k left over for paint. or a new clutch.

For $15k, you could buy a new S54 engine from BMW (M3 E46 engine with 333HP). I have seen M3 engine in a E34 somewhere but not sure if it was S50 or S54 engine... But why??? You could buy 540i for $15k
