asc throttle cable on 540

I'm putting my car back together finally!!

I'm a little baffled about the ASC throttle cable and its routing. It seems like there are a few plastic clips that the cable is supposed to route through(but I'm not sure), but when I put it through all of these, the cable isn't able to open the throttle the whole way. When I pull it open all the way the cable pulls off one of the clips that holds it(its on the valve cover).

Does this mean my cable is shot, or is the routing not all that important.

as long as it doesnt get tangled up on something or get stuck Id guess you would be Okay. Never checked if mine opened all the ways...hmm

Pictures from before I removed it seem to suggest that it wasn't connected at the valve cover bracket. I know when I removed the boot, the throttle was fully open, so I don't think this is in any way related to the work I did the past few days.
