View Full Version : I am addicted to a game - GTR2

I was in Best Buy with my girlfriend a few weeks ago killing time waiting to see Happy Feet on iMax (freaking awesome btw) so we went in the store for a bit to pre-christmas browse and look around. I was walking through software and saw this game, single box, tucked behind other games like Need For Speed, etc. I picked it up and looked at it and said "Wow great graphics..." I am a sucker for a race game with good graphics even if the game sucks - just banging around smashing cars on a track is fun for a little bit!

Well it was $19, picked it up since its so cheap and loaded on my PC a couple days later not expecting much. Holy crap was I wrong. This game is absolutely sick! Its very realistic, as the most fun, realistic cars ever, and omfg the detail and gameplay is great. I searched around some and found a forum called "Race Sim Central" - wow. I thought I was addicted to race sims, these guys have COCKPITS built for their computers with Sparco race seats and hydraulic pedals for their computer - it's insanity.

Here are some actual in-game screen shots:

Very cool game - I recommend it if you have a decent PC and like racing.

i saw a review of it on motors tv not long back and they said that it looked good (which it does) but the AI wasn't too clever

The AI is pretty good but that's irrelevant as online play is so fun - they even have 24hr races!

is that real time 24HR races? i had a psone game called le man that had the full race on it but the good thing was you could save it and come back to it, and i also think that GT4 on PS2 has a 24HR race on it too , but i haven't played it in a while

Explain what a "decent PC" is? What are the recommended specs, and what hardware are you running the game on to get such good graphics like that?

I'll check it out...
This has been my recent escape from reality...
Reality games. lol

Armed Assault - I ripped the Czech version, as it is not availible in the US due to a split between the original creators...

Most realistic shooter availible... the VBS2 is based off of this engine. (This game is the new operation flashpoint)
http://www.armedassault.com/

LockOn: Modern Air Combat(Flaming Cliffs version) Most realistic in physics and interface especially in aircraft control through it's actual instruments, but limited number of aircraft availible for flight. The next version (black shark) will include switchable buttons on the cockpit w your mouse... totally amazing.

And of course, it's old...but Homeworld 2 is still pretty fun.

I just downloaded this for it.

HOLY **** THIS GAME ROCKS!

I have a Logitech G25 racing system (no bucket seats :() and it seriously ROCKS! Too bad it doesn't have full support for the clutch system on the G25, though I'm trolling those forums for workarounds...

before the current machine i built i was sporting a blue & white g3 mac 300 i overclocked to 450, running a radeon mac edition video card, they came out in 97 i think and i got it a couple years old, t'was spiffy in it's day and mom ran it a couple years when i was done with it. now i am running a amd 3200+ 64 on a high end asus board, x800 pro radeon (old news now but when i got it there was only 3 faster cards available and two of them were modded x800 pros) a gig of ddr400 (once again bad ass when i built it) current hard drive is a sataII 250 western digital which is quite a bit faster then the ide i built it with, i am thinking about getting a 2nd sata wd 250 and playing with raid just because they are only $89 at sams and a live back up would be cool

yep, i've played them all, GTR, GTL, GTR2, LFS, rfactor... and rfactor comes out on top... the others are great, the GT* series looks good and has a good selection of tracks and cars out of the box, but the physics are too forgiving and I don't think they feel realistic... LFS has anally realistic physics but it's not open to mods and the sound -sucks-, so despite being my main racing sim for almost 2 years, it's now been shelved for rfactor

the graphics in rfactor are more raw than GT2, but it runs fast and looks fantastic when the tracks are textured well, car models are great, a recent mod (RFX) brings in all the cars from GTR2, and there are a huge number of tracks available for it. the driving model is second to none, driving the M3 GTR around the ring is a killer!

www.rfactor.net , definitely worth a try if you're into that sorta thing, then hit the race sim central forums for the mods!

OMG i hate you, i now have a new poison

I even tried hooking up my Logitech Driving force wheel from my PS2 into the PC [usb connection] and it knew EXACTLY what it was, lil tweaking here and there and i was able to paddle shift and everything!

This game is like if Forza and the Grand Turismo series had babies, and those babies were WIN

I am buying the Logitech G25 after xmas! Woot! RFactor is cool and all but its like $49 whereas GTR2 is $19 and IMHO, GTR2 is more fun...

LFS has a new patch with new sounds out! Go check it out!

I love GTR2 with Nordschliefe Tourist and a Porsche GT3...ahhhhh.

BTW the clutch full works in GTR2 with the G25.

Am I the only one who caught this...?

So you've tried this G25? I remember having a POS wheel for my Xbox, terrible.

THe motec interpreter "interprets" the data into something a human can read, namely graphs and scales and such. No virus there. Most FIA teams use this or something based on it.

The G25 is pretty hardcore. The pedals weigh about 15 pounds, the wheel feels great (real leather) and it has a 6 speed H pattern shifter with the ability to operate in a sequential style mode.

Most Xbox wheels where total garbage. This doesn't compare. It is about $250 though. :o

rFactor is in fact $39. You spent $300 on a G25 but $40 is too much? C'mon.

Seriously, I'm sure it's just the eggnog talking. Anyway Jon, this is a wicked find. I jumped in and turned all the assists off and got my ass handed to me. I now learn the value of traction control lol!

I picked up the G25 today (http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=011550&cid=PE.468). Let's see if I can get it hooked up before the guests arrive.
