Hello there,

Newbie confused about the check engine codes! I've got a '92 525i e34 M50 USA car and my check engine light comes on intermittently after she warms up. Also hates to idle at first when cold. So I searched and found out about the stomp test. Tried it and can't get the light to blink. I have a car code display and can get that to display info by using the button under the tach. Does this replace the blink codes? or is it just other info? The codes that are displayed are not like the 4 digit codes. What do they mean? I'm totally confused, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave:)

Buy a Peake tool which is much easier and more helpful.

I had trouble getting mine to flash as well.

Finally figured it out.

Turn the key to pos2,(just before cranking position) and IMMEDIATLY depress the pedal ALL THE WAY down and let the pedal ALL THE WAY up five times as fast as you can (before five seconds elapses). This will cause the check engine light to flash a code.

Good luck,
