My reversing lights stopped all of a sudden and after checking the bulbs, fuses,I finally dismantled the gear selector switch assembly and found the problem. The switch assembly has four seperate single wiper contacts for the gear display and a seperate double contact for the reverseing lights all on a moving wiper arm. The seperate contacts for the reversing lights face foreward and backward. For some reason in the past the plastic had melted at the point near to the reverse position and had created a small blob of plastic. This blob of plastic was lifting the backward contact off the circuit track. I removed the blob with a sharp blade and removed the wiper arm and retentioned the contacts a bit. After re assembling the switch assembly and putting everything back it was time to test the repair.

Perfect the reversing lights worked! :D

I too have done this- and read about others with the same issue. It is a pity the LKM does not have a relay for the reverse lights!

Perhaps it is worth us all retro-fitting one so to relieve the load from the gear selector, that way we won't end up losing the reverse slider forever... :) Nick
