I have an E-34 Touring, and often the rear glass panel won't stay up, does anyone else have this issue? Does this indicate the pistons are failing, and can they be replaced? Sometimes it will stay up, but mostly it won't.

Thank you so much for the info, I found the website that listed the procedure, and that exactly addresses the issue. I appreciate you digging that up! Yes, I am getting tired of being hit on the head!

Happy motoring,

Chris

Just did this repair over the weekend. It is not clear from the pictures but the inner ball socket mounts straight down (pry straight up to remove). Also, if you can find it buy replacements for the rubber gaiter things. I lost one of mine inside the ceiling cavity and ended up stuffing the opening with packing foam to keep stuff from getting in there. Also, I found out the hard way that the plastic elements that you need to remove first from around the tailgate are very brittle.
