View Full Version : E34 saved my life...

I only had my second E34 for about 11 months. I rolled the car on an isolated stretch of highway and came to rest in a dense thicket. I don't know how many times I rolled but the deputy told me we were lucky to be alive (I had one passenger) and it was a miracle that we were able to walk out of it... I was completely untouched (except for the crap in my lederhosen) and my passenger suffered some connective tissue damage to his shoulder and ribs (the car landed passenger side down). I had to crawl up at an angle out of the driver's side window and I was able to pull my friend out of the car and get him through the brush/trees. We no longer had a working cell phone and had a bit of a walk to a gas station pay phone. btw, it was a `95 525iA .
I am very thankful to be alive and well....

I am also needing to find a replacement... If anybody knows of a nice E34 for a true E34 lover (that was my second, the first was stolen), let me know. In the meantime, I am looking at an E39 528iAT with sport and premium pkgs. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/E39-528iT-Sport-Package-w-Steptronic-ATLANTA_W0QQitemZ220054717192QQihZ012QQcategoryZ60 08QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thanks guys.

Glad to hear the car did its job... Do you happen to have any photos from the accident? Would be interesting to see how well she held up.

Glad to hear you're OK, sorry about your passenger.

That's a shame about your Bimmer, your sig says 98k miles, it was still in the prime of it's life. You should try to track which junkyard the car ends up in, someone might want that engine and tranny.

Glad you are both OK.

This post should be posted on all Hyundai websites given that had you been in an Accent, you would almost certainly be dead.

I went to the storage lot and took some pics today, I'm going to the crash site friday to get some pics there... I'll have to have them developed and have them put on cd, I still use an old fashioned 35mm SLR with film...should have some pics up by friday night... after looking at it, it looks like the rear of the passenger compartment struck a large tree or stump at one point, and if someone had been in the rear passenger side they would not have fared as well as just the two of us up front. As to how it happened, I don't remember much after feeling the rear end come out from underneath me round a corner. It was wet and cold, approx. 4 am.... I remember the car sliding very quickly, sideways, down into a shallow ditch. I was gripping the steering wheel tight and had my foot planted on the dead pedal. The only thing I saw was water and a blur of trees and then we launched... hard... after that I don't think my mind and soul caught up with my body until the car was at rest, I couldn't tell which way was up... I had managed to keep my foot on the floor and my hands on the steering wheel, I remember having little chunks of glass hit me in the face like they came out of a shotgun. The first thing I did when I regained awareness was to spit out a mouthful of glass nuggets. I asked my passenger if he was ok, I could hear that he was in pain but he said yes. I did I quick check of myself to see if I was bleeding... no. can I move my toes... yes. I braced myself and unbuckled my seatbelt, falling onto my passenger a bit. The driver's side window was facing up at about an 80 degree angle, I used the emergency brake as a step to push myself out. It was just a matter of getting my passenger out and through the tangle. We came inches from having a gnarled stump come through the passenger side window and missed a telephone pole on our way down into the ditch by just a few feet. The pictures I took are definitely worth a thousand words... I'll just shutup now and post them as soon as I get them developed.

.... ... . ... ......

My goodness... I am glad you guys are okay. Your health is important. I hope the local police CSI will examine the car to determine what might cause the accident... It would be important that maybe it is something all of us will need to check to prevent this problem from happening.

Day-um, now THAT is German Engineering!

As I said in the #bimmer-info chat room (cough cough), it's sad to see an E34 in that state, however I am thankful that I drive a car that is more than capable of saving lives in a given situation, which overrules everything else IMO.

You must be glad you didn't carry any back passengers ... I'm actually a bit disappointed that part of the E34 didn't hold up a bit better ... but then it must have been a hell of a bang, happy to see you typing away in good health!

Probably like this...

Wow that sure is violent I can't believe you two are alright. The driver and passenger seat compartment seems to be the only part of the car that isn't caved in. You're extremely lucky guess you'll just have to get another E34 seeing as how safe they are.

ooooo that was a good one looks like it hit a tree while in the air, that's about as bad a e34 as i have seen they are built like a brick shithouse

that is the worst e34 wreck I have seen - glad you were ok.

You should see a doctor a month from now and see if you have any injuries that creep up on you, that really looked like a huge impact.
