just curious, what year cars got this treatment for the valve cover

with the black coloration.....is the entire cover black, or just the exposed parts? anything else colored black here that the other cars didn't have? i want to apply this to my car when the cover comes off for the v-cover gasket, though i loathe to think of the amount of prep and bondo and paintit is going to take to accomplish the quality of the factory coloration.

i take it then that this is homespun or tuner shop? if it is, i want it too :D, coulda f*ing fooled me, its done well. just gotta get a paint place to make me up some of that black to match things there, and some silver to replenish the BMW and stripes.
