I don't know man, I think it had to do with how much the original sticker was though :p

USA! USA! USA!

Where'd you find it?

Before I got my 540 I had deposit on one just like that except it had blue pinstriping. The thing was immaculate but the seller and I couldn't work out the details.

Are you all just calling anything with a manual transmission an "M"? ie: 530iM, 525iM? What's up with that?

What is the problem with that? I have seen that a lot. It doesn't mean that is a M5 or anything.

Antrieb--I love your car. I have a white 535 now, but it has gray interrior. Used to have a white 525 that had blue interrior and I loved that blue. I just think it is the best.

Looks nice.
Would you mind sharing the price?
Using a small "m" in the model designation would avoid "M" confusiion.

I have a 525iA, or 525i Automatic. This is BMW's official nomenclature.

He has a 535i according to BMW, but too quell the questions of what tranny it is, he just says 535iM, for 535i Manual. Similar to 535i/5, for 535i 5-speed.

Nothing to do with BMW ///Motorsport.

If he were calling it an ///M car, he would say M 535i, as the ///M goes in front ofo the model name. ;)

Thanks for the comments guys. I got the car for $4,000 which I think is a fair price considering it has loads of recent work done to it.

My 1989 grey 535 has pin stripes. Was this original bmw paint back then? I see your white one has too. Seems out of place. Also rocker panels are thick with pebble guard. So much so the black paint wears on edge.

Hey dude, you bought the Manual version of my car. 1990 535i A with blue leather.

This is kind of OT, but the pics demonstrate one problem I have with mine, was hoping for advice.

In this model, in the white, look at the line between the hood and the grille. That black gap there has always bothered me as looking incomplete. It is about twice the size of the gap on the bottom, and to me looks sloppy. I thought that maybe at some point someone had removed/reinstalled my grille and not put it back correctly, but this car is showing the same gap.

I realize that is is most pronounced in the white, but it still bugs me. What would be some options for making this gap smaller/less visable? I thought about trying to lower the front edge of the hood by dropping the hinges a bit, but then I'd probably mess up the hood line/body panel match-up.

Can the grille be loosened and raised w/o causing a gap visable at the bottom?

Any ideas would be great, and thanks.

When I de-pinstriped the red e34, I just used a heat gun and it peeled right off, so it isn't paint. Not really sure what your talking about though. I also don't care about how the lower sections look or the rocker panels. They will be painted to match the car.

Mac, might I say your car is gorgeous in that pic, do you have any more of it? And which front lip spoiler is that?

very nice.. i am surprised you didn't paint the door handles too though but it does compliment the black tail-lights..

and i like that back window spoiler.. i debated getting that for a while and in the end i opted out because i didn't realize it would look that good

i like the slim mirrors too.. nice touch. all in all one of the best looking e34s i have ever seen :D

So much so the black paint wears on edge.No U.S.-spec BMW ever came to the U.S. with pinstripes. They were all added by the dealer in a bogus attempt at increasing the profit margin. Any BMW (Euro, etc.) that did get built with pinstripes had them done in tape, including the M635Csi and the 2002 Turbo. Personally I draw the line at painted stripes but had to overcome my prejudice when I purchased my last two BMWs that had painted stripes. At least the E28 535is (M!!! Hah!) stripe was amenable to an application of lacquer thinner in removing the Motorsport stripes that went across the leading edge of the front hood! Gross! :(

The chip-coat on the rockers is like that on your year. Just respray it with black to cover it or remove all the black with polishing compound (or lacquer thinner if you're a gambler) and see how it looks in body color. You can alway black it again. I like the finish 3M Flexible Undercoating Spray gives it. Semi-flat black bumper spray works well, too. YMMV

If he were calling it an ///M car, he would say M 535i, as the ///M goes in front ofo the model name. ;)Heck, it's part of their profile. Meaning you don't have to use shorthand since you're not typing it every post. Mine just says "5-speed" so there's no confusion or mistaken assumption of pretense. I'm just guessing it was started by someone, copied by another, and the lemming-like behavior was simply perpetuated. Makes no difference to me other than it's a made-up appellation never used by BMW, unlike "535iA", that I found confusing and subject to misinterpretation. Better than a blatant misuse like most folks who call their car's "Sports" when they're not, simply because they have a manual transmission. Carry on! "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...."

So, what convention do you all assign to the few 540i with the M-sport package, including the 540iM as the Canadians call theirs? Now you see my confusion?

I think that anyone who has an M-sport would say they have a 540i M-sport or M540i. :dunno

although a nice car, white E34,s just dont do it for me.I agree, the exception being the '95 U.S. models with the white rockers, door bottoms, and front and rear valances. It sure is easy to keep clean, unlike my Diamond Black E28 535is which wants to be waxed every time it gets washed.
