My roof crapped out today - out of the blue. It was closed (fortunately) and when I went to open it, zilch. Nada. Once i got home, I yanked the seat out and checked the fuse - it was fine. Checked the front fuses (all of em - just to be sure...) they were fine. Got back in the car, pressed UP and I could hear the motor turn. Hrmmm....

Pulled the cover off and started prodding wires with my meter - everything seemed to be working, but it wasn't! WTF! It had power, the switch was working, the wires were showing all the correct readings. It worked fine until I disconnected the battery.

30 minutes later on Google and I came upon the "double panel sunroof re-sync" procedure from BMW. Yes - the panels each have their own motor and when the power has been cut off, they need to be told who is where and how the other one is doing. Here 'tis for the record:

- Get in and turn the key to position 2.
- Push straight UP on the switch and hold for 20 seconds. You'll hear the motors move around somewhat.
- Let go of the button, turn the key off and back on
- Test the roof.

That's all it took for me.
