Here (http://users.adelphia.net/~cpkver8/bay 004.mov)is a video of my poor old M60 giving all its got with the hood up and my hairy ape arm revving the throttle cable.I move the camera to the back end of the driver side valve cover for a close up listen to a knock. Is there any way to tell if this is from anything other than using 5W30 oil and not being in Barrow, Alaska?Could it be from Ethanol in the gas or do i need to tighten something ?

kinda hard to say from the sound quality it all sounds shitty, common knocks on m60s are, cat's, loose inner pipes inside of the headers (no real fix it needs a new header) lifter ticks are a little uncommon but the oil pump falling off is very common and it could pump air into the lifters, and twin mass flywheels love to rattle

Thanks. I had the lower pan taken off and was told all bolts were fitted on the oil pump. But it does sound like typical lifter rap which i don't think i remember hearing before i changed the oil and they used 5w30.I guess i should change it to a thicker oil.The tapping sounds right up close to the valve cover, would the cat/header deal be lower in the engine?I didn't take into account not everyone might have their computer running thru a 200 watt per channel high end stereo with large floor standing speakers.. I imagine with just PC speakers it'd be hard to tell it was even an engine..

i've got decent speakers but it still sounds like a shitty old condenser mic recording, take a long screwdriver and press the handle end to your ear and touch various things with the tip searching for the sound source (or use a stethoscope if you have it)

I think i notice it more hot which is why since i didn't hear it before i changed to thin oil i assumed it was just that.
