View Full Version : Alternator bearing noise?

Have a squeal for 10 seconds or so on a cold start. I just replaced my AC pulley/tensioner and belt. Now it is almost gone. Hoever, there is still some squeal on a cold start. My waterpump, accessory pullies and belt were replaced about 25,000 miles ago. Do not believe they are the problem.

I think the noise relates to my alternator or perhaps power steering pump which are both original. Bearings could be going bad and placing a strain on the belt or even the accesory pullies and tensioner.

Any way to test? Thanks in advance.

A sqeal is usually a loose belt.Loosening in 25k isn't unreasonable. Next time it happens turn the wheel and notice if it worsens. Maybe it's just loose enough to struggle with moving cold fluids
