OK, what's the difference between a Porter Cable Random Orbital Polisher and their Random Orbital Sander, like model 7336???

like here:

http://www.northwestpowertools.com/sanders/barrel/7336.htm

Looks like the same thing to me and the "sander" goes for about $110, whereas I see the "polishers" for about $199.

I'm thinking we just need the bonnets for the polishers.

Who has the best prices on these things?

TIA!

I think the polisher is better for the finish than the sander. :D

Wow, what's got into me? I must have had some of what Jeff has from time to time!http://www.dodge-charger.com/Charger/BoardImages/cheesy.gif

sander most likely has more power, a polisher don't need as much ass as a sander, as long as it's a random orbit it should work

Hmmmmm. This sounds like they're the same.....

Looks like the 7336 is the same model, you just have to get the bonnets and the velcro. Also sounds like Griot's sells their own version of the 7336.

I'll have to do more research but this sounds promising.

they have less power so they tend to stop quicker before it damage the paint. the sander will not stop so quick.
it's just my 2 cents.

Looks like their all very similar and have only slight variations in the kit included in different model numbers.

6 inch sander polisher, they use the same random orbital sander just like you thought. And you want the 6 inch not the 5... You can get the 7336sp here for 121. The sp stands for sander polisher.. It comes with both the sanding head and the polishing head for that price. I've had one since they first came out but I only use it for sanding...My cars wouldn't know what a polisher is.. Check here for the 121 price (http://www.toolbarn.com/cgi-bin/products.cgi/7336SP/)

Robert, the 7336 is also available at Lowes for $109 plus tax. It comes with a polishing pad, you can find additional pads online for about $7 each.

Thanks Scott that does look like a great deal. The best of all worlds with all the options.

Now I'll have to wait another month to rationalize this purchase since I just bought the new thrust arms with the M5 bushings and some tools to work on the 356!
