Hey Everyone,

I Have a 1989 520i and noticed today that the carpet at the front passenger side is soaking wet, so i took the carpet up and found lots of water swimming about everywhere and big patches of rust, so i got rid of the water and dried the carpet but i have no idea how this has happened as the other carpets in the car are ok. How has this happened ? and what can i do to avoid this happening?

Many Thanks

Fraser

I had a similar problem on both drivers and passengers side, but after a pretty nasty rain...

Take the carpet up again, then spray the whole car all over the top with the garden hose. Watch for leaks coming in. I'd suspect a door seal or sunroof drain.

I second that.
You didn't leave your window open did you?

Check your grommet holes front and back of the front jack points on the undersill of the car. Seal with black Automotive Goop. Don't drive fast through puddles.

Heater core leaks smell of coolant.
Water does not smell.

I had the same thing happen after a heavy rain- passenger side carpet was soaked. My drain was clogged and all I did was get under my car and unclog them. I also poured hot hot water down the drain tube to flush out dirt and debris. there are four inside your sunroof. Look at this thread for more help.
