Hi All,

I need to get this of my mind. What is the risk of dirt and possibly some fine sand entering the intake manifold (of M60 motor) through a torn intake boot.

I noticed it after going for a long drive (600 miles round trip) to Savannah beaches. Could I have damaged the cylinder walls, being M60 and all I am a little worried.

Thanks
Arun

Put some duct tape over for now, order a new boot.

Thank you. I have already replaced with a new intake boot. I want to know how bad I messed up.

probably not much if any got in, not much airflow through the crack to carry dirt in

You're fine.

I used to run a piece of aluminum window screen over the intake on my turbo. Look at me, I'm fine.

I ripped an intake 'boot' putting in a new air filter in my last BMW, the rubber was so dry, it cracked when I was bending it up.

I put duct tape over it, and got some new rubber from the dealer.
