I have just swapped out the engine and auto tranny in my '91 e34. The TCM (trans control module) that came with the tranny keeps the car in limp mode. It came out of a '95 e34. When I use the original TCM the car goes into limp mode when I kick down into a passing gear above about 20mph. Can either of the TCM's be reprogrammed to work properly with my new configuration? I have checked all fuses under rear seat and found no problems there. Any help would be apreciated.

Also, I need to replace the drivers side strut assembly. Is this a fairly straight-forward procedure or does it require special tools and expertise.

Erk,

That's likely not the computer - more likely the tranny itself is busted!

Why was the donor car scrapped?

This happened when I replaced the automatic in my 92 with one from a 94. The original TCM did just what yours does. You need the matching TCM for the year of transmission you have. Call Autosports Unlimited @ 800-624-3876 and ask to talk to their trans specialist (can't remember his name) but he sold me the correct one for my transmission. Make sure you have the info off the data plate on the side or your replacement trans.
