I cant work out how thing thing is supposed to look/work
Im guessing it replaces your boot lights..
Is this an aftermarket thing, or just a big mistake by bmw..

That looks hell ugly.

I prefer my "boot garnish" better: http://acherion.com/blog/wp-content/bmw/IMG_0762.jpg
(closeup: http://acherion.com/blog/wp-content/bmw/IMG_0763.jpg)

Also that is impossible to be for an E34, must be for some other model. There is no hole for the boot keyhole to poke through, and it looks like it would overlap the reverse and rear fog lights if it were ever to be mounted on an E34's backside.

Haha quite observant there Michael :D That is indeed Scooby, my girlfriend won it in those Skill Tester games with the joystick and the robotic arm. He lives on my parcel shelf now :p

Had a look at realoem.com and it looks suspisciously like one suitable for an E36, rather than an E34

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CB41&mospid=47444&btnr=51_4628&hg=51&fg=95

EDIT: even says ROT/GELB in the supplement column ... Red/Gold...

Reminds me of a Ford Telstar (don't think the Telstar was sold in the states, if I find a pic I'll post)

Mine came with a red one that I trashed but it left a mark, where can I get a black one?

Do it twice, but the second one for me, spares are always useful.. Honest!

I've seen one of these on an e36 a couple of months ago and I can confirm its an e36 part :)

www.abrahamsmotorsport.com carries the M5 black units to go between the taillights...I think it's around $50-$60 or so.
