I have a chance to buy a 93 325I with a 3.2L M engine supposedly am S52. The M power valve cover is on it and ther eis also an M50 Intake manifold which I know is a popular mod. Unfortunately the car is far away and i cant get up on it. Are there any ways of telling wether or not it is an S52? I understand there are numbers on the head and/or block but he cant find them. Also, will an S52 run on a standard M50 ECU? I figured if I could get him to pull the ECU that would tell something.

Gees, I don't frequent these forums very much. So sorry for the month-late reply.

Just incase you haven't looked into it yet, the S52 has the oil cap towards the front rather than the back (M50, S50). I know there are other little ways to check, but the best bet would be to run the vin on the block. It's easiest when the car is on a lift tho. I don't know if thats an option or not. You could always just drive it. That should let you know if its an S52 or not. :p
