nope, shipping her back. a little work and shes worth a hell of a lot more. I have been watching that thing all day and was going to bid but I know it would have been snatched up before the end at that price. I think taking the chance might be worth it, maybe not...we shall see.

That thing is all the way down to the Houston area. It's over 1000 miles from where I live in Central Illinois, I know Jeff is some 800 miles from Chicago, so that's an additional 1000 miles.

A road trip sure presents itself here, but it's hard to trust something over that kind of distance. But rest assured Jeff, there are enough of us over the country here to lend a hand if something went wrong if you did decide to drive it back home....hmmm,

Shipping $1500
or
Airline ticket $250 + fuel and two nights at fleabag motel = $500

Driving 2000 miles across the USA at this time of year in an 850?

PRICELESS.....

Aw hell, go for it Jeff, I did it in a Mercedes from Texas, but it was only 800 miles....just remember, we're here for you.

800 miles from chi town, i think not, jeff, (i belive) lives less then 1/2 hour from me, and im 270 fro chicago, i just made the trip at a lesiurly 70-75 in under 5 hours. its 1328 from my town to texas, figure you might be able to squeez 20mpg avg out of that beast, aand with a avg gas price of about 2.10 (under 2 in some places) its going to cost you about 140 in gas, more fro the likes of a bmw man whos would love the auto bahn, and flight can be had for much less then 250 thats for sure, make the drive man

haha you guys are great! With the steering pump issue and it not being a familiar vehicle with respects to current problems I think the best thing to do is ship it home. Just like everything else I buy, point click serve. I cant close the printshop for any time and I get my son Sal Fri-sunday so PCS is the way to go.

I'm trying not to constantly think about it but I love that color, the wheels ehh but look okay. I figure the sellers concerned about the cosmetics and steering pump which motivated him to sell. Being an avid but not willing wrencher I think I can handle most if not all repairs whereas he paid someone, which is motivation in itself.

Concidering I have only seen 2 of these cars in my life and both at the Bimmer meets, even if it wont run it will be worthy just to cover and show to my friends over a few cases of beers :D

Funny how you mentioned just last week that you "kinda" had your eye on

That's just swell. Your gonna get addicted to its raw power, lose interest in your e34 to the point of selling the v8, get stuck with all the issues the 850 has but you'll tolerate them anyway for the rush you get when it is running good -- there's that autistic supermodel I speak of occasionally.

Enjoy the ride & congrat's! :D

you will find that the 8 series seats are among some of the most comfortable automotive seats around, the drivablity will remind you of a nice tight e34 as it has almost the same suspension but it feels a little sportyer, and the console is nice and handy, you barely even need to move your arm from the rest to adjust stuff.
id say if you were picking it up you could stop by for a visit, houston is 4-5 hours away

they are about the same size but a little sportyer shape, the back seats are **** on a boar useless, the back seat in my e30 is bigger (no ****, i have hauled mom and grand ma from virginia to baton rouge which is right at 1100 miles with little or no bitching) with the front in normal lard ass position they just about touch the back seats, and insult to injury the roof tapers down and eats up the headroom

That reminds me of the saying, "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap exotic."

With that starting price you can't really go wrong though, even if the engine is hurt. I checked the market on them last night and it doesn't look bad at all from here.

and extremely pricey to get parts for them. The headrest support mechanism was broken on one i worked on and it was priced extremely high, so take care of those seats. Also a word to the wise, one of the 850's that i work on had what i suspected was a bad ekm which is the control module for all the gauges on the dash cluster. I sent it elsewhere for a positive diagnosis since i don't have a means to say that it absolutely positively is bad and they are 1200 for a new blank one. Its been sitting at another shop for 6 months now and they haven't been able to get an ekm. The message coming back from germany is NLA no longer available. So he's going to bring the car back to me and i'm going to pull the ekm again and take it to some of my electronic tech friends and see if anybody can repair it without damaging the memory chip in it. Otherwise he's stuck with a 850 with no instruments at all.

that has all the vehicle options , engine ,trans, diff all the other options including odometer reading etc on it. There's a service bulletin in the tis about it, I found a used one from a person i know but am trying to determine if we can desolder the memory chip and transfer it from one to the other without harming it. Instead i may send it to Gavin on the net who rebuilds the ABS modules and have him take a look at it to see how easy it would be to repair.

From what the owner says, he knows the previous 2 owners and they were car collectors. You know, money is no object and the car was very well taken care of. He said the practicality of the car was questioned and the door ding was the final straw. Says he didn'y want to sell it but couldnt stand anything else to happen to the car. The ding looks like it could be easily buffed out, prepare for lots and lots of pictures when I get the car!

De-soldering the OTPROM may be feasible but may be more difficult if the board has conformal coating. We do this kind of R&R here all the time with excellent results.

yes definetly it is the new touring vehicle. I live on dirt so it wont come out very much in MI. I have been surfing for quite a while and found this rare specimen from a collectors collection... something like that. simple little E34 fixes and were good to go. If the body is as bad as he told me this thing will be close to ultimate mint the first week. Im geeked big time. I plan to take my vacation next summer sitting on yard chairs just looking at it.

At first I had no intention of buying one but 'comeon 8500 buy it now? I was shakin and sweaty waiting for my mates reply and she said she wanted it... had to click, lots of garbage out there wanting 12-23k. 8500? no brainer.

Any news?
Seems like a smokin' deal. The car is really sexy and you should be on cloud 9 about now. No?
Unfortunately the 8 Series cars are not in my consideration set. My ex-biz partner (complete JA and cork soccer) had a green one so I just can't picture myself behind the wheel of anything that asswipe had.
He bought that one used and it spent a good bit of time at Weber BMW waiting for parts.
My brother's wife's brother also had one, a white one, and he couldn't have been more proud of it. He now drives a Bently. Big ego, you think?
Also saw another one driving around town (half million people) but not lately. Not common, very sexy, at $80 grand, they appealed to the manicured set.
Best of luck to you.

yes she was reborn today, as it rolled outof the birth canal I was shocked, looked much better than I imagined. I need to inspect the entire thing as it had indies and these guys use the receipts as write offs through the company. No written log available. I figure the standard front suspension parts and whatever else I find out.

Going to get all the parts at once and then reassemble. As it was rainy/sleety and hail today, on a mud road, needless to say I didnt take it for a trial run.
