View Full Version : Buying a 91 525 M20 or M50 24V

Hey guys, I just sold my 91 535I. I got a line on a 91 525 in good shape for 1,500.. what a deal, how do I tell wich of the two motors this car has in it?? I should buy it regardless at this price.. Right or wrong???

1500 for a car that runs well, let alone a BMW is a great deal.

not sure if you are in the United states or not, but the m50 was first used on the 1991 here. methinks the easiest way to tell if it has the us spec m50 is to look for spark plug wires. if it does have plug wires, its the m20. the m50 has coil on plug.

You can easily see the difference between M20 and M50 engine.
