Do i need a new Brain (http://data.bmrparts.com/bmwparts/25111671637582U.html)?My blower has stopped blowing. It has for a while been growing more intermittent but today it quit for the longest and hasn't come back yet.I checked the fuses, all good. The lights in the temp dials work as usual but the lights in the three left hand buttons to turn on the rear defrost,a/c and recirculate don't.I recently changed the cabin micro filter and am aware the climate control brain is situated down there. Is that likely the culprit? Does the whole unit croak or can it be refurbished. If the fault could lay elsewhere, where else can i hunt.

I have been bitting my tongue for 24 hours and I just can't do it anymore.

The psych major emerges. "You feel nothing". "Your blower stopped blowing."

Those shound like problems for a psychologist, not mechanics.:p

At least it is not a bad time of year to be having a/c problems. I wouldn't want to be having heater problems living in New Hampshire going into winter.

Do i need a new Brain (http://data.bmrparts.com/bmwparts/25111671637582U.html)?

I know guys are always preoccupied with long hard things but I think this thread needs to get back on topic.

(Scarecrow)
I could wile away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain

I'd unravel any riddle
For any individ'le
In trouble or in pain

(Dorothy)
With the thoughts you'd be thinkin'
You could be another Lincoln
If you only had a brain

(Scarecrow)
Oh, I would tell you why
The ocean's near the shore
I could think of things I never thunk before
And then I'd sit and think some more

I would not be just a nuffin'
My head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain
I would dance and be merry
Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a brain

Your thought guys?

Are you suggesting 'guys' couldn't have more than one thought or is this a typo? BTW, did you happen to get to see Jacques Loussier the other night ?

You are astute. That was a Freudian slip on my part. Guys do only have one thought--sex.

No I missed Jacques Loussier. I am busy having a nervous breakdown over work and it totally dropped off my radar. Bummer. From your description, I think I would have really liked him.

And there you have the mathematics of male/female relationships. Men get what they want and women get what they want. Just call me cynical.

By all means, lets get back on topic. Does the resistor modual suggestion from Bob solve this or does anyone else have other ideas.

band speakers in the trunk usually solve all other problems, as long as you can power 2500 watts.

its still blowing and still when a/c on its room temp. If the heat/water valves when failed allow heat to enter the system when its set to a/c that would dilute the cold and result in room temp/warm air, right ?btw, i F'ed up my rust fix already. I failed to shield from the wind adequately and didn't block off the entire roof when spraying the self etching primer to the corner of the sunroof i sanded. I was pressed for time and had to get something over the bare metal. A stray gust blew right as i was spraying the gray primer and now my roof looks like its a bit dusty. Go ahead ,try and brush it off....Is there any chance anything will let me rub those little tiny dust like specks of gray, self etching primer off without further ruining the paint or am i doomed to get the whole thing repainted? The touch up paint didn't lay down very smoothly either , it looks like hell but at least the metal isn't rusty or exposed for the time being..I am sore vexed..

Blitzkrieg Bob

with liquid polishing compound can smooth things out.

If the touch up paint was too heavy or orange peel, 1200 to 1800 grit wet sand it lightly, then polish it.

good luck...it's an art

94/95 US V8's have IHKA which is the climate control with the dials, which uses a sword instead of a resistor pack , This thread is getting very boring.
So you need a sword, or to repair your sword.

So you need a sword, or to repair your sword. Everything i've read so far says the sword ended with '90. You're saying they reintroduced it in 94/95?When i recently changed my microfilter i saw what resembles the so called brain but didn't see the sword. Now Bill, i know this may be upsetting but could you be, mistaken? have any diagrams showing my '95 540 has a sword?

it says for the associated part;up to 06/90 ... it seems to conflict with this http://data.bmrparts.com/bmwparts/25111671626347U.html that lists a different type of device for thr '95. I wasn't looking for the sword so maybe i overlooed it when i was doen there changing the microfilter .i'll go scope it out again... anway i have heat galore so for the winter this can ride. I'll eventually want to figure it out if the blower stops again though. Thanks.

I want to firm up my suspension before i go there.. I have yet to figure out how to get a chip made. Mark D said if i could read my present chip and email him the file he could make one but i haven't found where i can get what i need. I have the laptop but what i need to read the chip ? I also called a BMW dealership and left a voice mail for the service supervisor explaining i my 540 had the small block swap under warranty and I want to put in a modified chip but nobody has the information to program a new chip and could they help me. I never heard back..Someone in my situation, with the Alusil block swap must have encountered this problem and found the way around it , maybe i just have to get the chip reader..Radio Shack?
