I have a 1994 540i, non-touring.

It needs front struts and I don't have a ton of money.

Does anyone have any recomendations, and how big of a job is it to install?

Thanks in Advance!

do a search, many many oppinions about struts, I like the sachs turbo. first time it will take you most of an afternoon with spring compressors and a good ball joint seperator.

do a search before Qube finds this.

Qube's on his way :).

In relation to strut inserts, you haven't told us what your looking for.

Do you want the standard 'plush' ride?

Are you after something that handles a little better and rides a little firmer?

Are you planning on replacing the springs at any time to lower the road stance/improve the handling?

The are a great number of options open to you.

But like Regal said, do a search first have a read of the opinions and experiances of others on this board, then repost with a plan of what you want to do and people here will be more than willing to help you find the best prices.

Good luck in your search! :)

i think i want original type ride.. though I am open to other's ideas.

I am looking for best value/ride. Money IS a concern, though not the main concern.

I have to say that i like the firm ride given by my set up. It is the stock M Sport suspension for the 1995 540 6 sp. Lowered and firmer. It can seem somewhat more jarring than that plush ride in say a stock 525 where you almost can't feel a thing. This set up though allows for more aggressive maneuvering. It really defeats imperfections in the road surface it has such authority over irregular surfaces. Its not so jarring that you feel you've been in the Ring with Mohamed Ali or George Foreman but there is just no bouncing ,you go over a bump and the car just says "Ha! whammmo, what bump?,how do you like that, give us another one."as you nail that highway merge at 70. its like the wheels are magnetized to the road. What this is a function of i don't know. If they used a certain make shock for this suspension or if its just from having the springs lower but when i get around to replacing my struts and shocks i don't want to substantially change the present ride.
