For those who have actually done leather re-coloring, these questions:

If you wanted to change a black interior to tan or natural leather color, would it be a straigtforward strip off the old black pigment from the leather?

And, since the door panels, etc. are most likely vinyl rather than leather, how to procede other than simply replacing the vinyl?

Probably easier to do a complete interior swap with a tan-interior car, huh?

Get a different interior bud. Less hassle and the colour won't peel off!

The door panels are easy to take off, and yes its vinyl on mine.
You could very easily purchase some thin leather and stretch it over the old panels though, it would likely look very good.

Cant comment of bleaching the actual leather though :(

Good leather dye such as I used on the 300E will adhere to vinyl; I redyed the vinyl in the Benz. Changing colors however, may be another story. If you realize the risk is that you get a new interior if it doesn't work, give it a try. It will be a lot cheaper and less work. I can say that I accidently got some gray leather dye on my topsider (shoe) during the job and it covered the dark brown very well. Hasn't come off in two years, either.
