if my car has vanos or not?

Its a 1/92 and vanos started in 92 right, so it should have it. But are there any other ways to check this?

I believe VANOS started with the 93 model year.

The front of the cyl head on a regular M50 is smoth. A VANOS equipped engine has a bump out.

Do a google image search of BMW VANOS for a better description.

Note 'the bump' on the front of the cylinder head

I thought it started in 92? Anyway as it turns out its a non-vanos, but is it really anything special?

Nah! It's just gimmick. More engineering, more parts added and more parts will break.

My 91 525 is a 10/90 build date. Not sure exactly where/when the M50 had its debute in the e34. Anyone?

EDIT: OOOps, realized you were talking about when vanos hit the scene.
