View Full Version : Studio Pictures of My Car. Possible Prints??

What a crazy experience it was. I had to go to a studio in downtown San Francisco on one days notice. Studio was on the third story, meaning I had to drive the car through a bunch of narrow halls to get to the lift which took it up to the studio where the shoot took place. This ended up being a nice reward for a summer of hard work. I felt lucky as hell to be chosen for this shoot. Could have and should have been a much nicer car under those lights. I guess they made mine look pretty good though. Anyway, here are the photographers' pictures:

http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7131/bmwpb3.jpg

And here are my normal angle interpretations of them:

I'll be getting the prints from them soon, and might be able to make copies if anyone is interested. I should have a third shot coming too, which will be a straight side view. I'll post that one up once I get it.

Can I get one in red and pass it off as my car? :D

Those are great shots- the lighting is superb, as is the paint! Top marks for the summer. Looks better than new David.

Figure about $2,000 to color shift one of those images. Would probably want to have something High Res to work with though.

What was the occasion ?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh with permission, those pictures would be awesome to Photoshop with :) Of course, black is inheriently difficult to work with... with my limited skills.

Man, you have a lip spoiler, the body panels match up.. shadowline. Oh YUM!

EDIT:
I hope you don't mind, but I couldn't resist a quickie! It's not masked well, but I wanted to do a concept in 5 minutes. Let me know and I'll remove it if you want.

.

REMOVED PICTURE, editing. Back soon.

I agree, it would win without a doubt. I am absolutely blown away by those pictures...by far the best e34 pictures that have ever been taken, and i should know, given my collection of e34 pics.

BTW, can anyone still say that narrow grills arent the best?

Is your car really that perfect when looking closely at it? I am stunned by how immaculate it is. Post the pictures in a car ad and sell it for $50,000.

Definitely submit to Bavauto like Qube said.

One question, did they do any touching up to get rid of nicks and scrapes or is that just how beautiful your car is?

Great photos, lighting and p-shop work by Qube.

Nice shoot to have of your own car. Not an easy task for just anyone with a camera, it takes some experience to light like that. I don't think my car would hold up to such scrutiny, yours looks exceptionally clean,

Congrats!

Amazing Studio Photos.....I wish my car looked that clean! :)

However...I...just have to say it....All that, and they didn't turn the wheels so that the roundels on the rims would be right side up..... :( :(

There was some touching up to make the licence plate disapear in the 2nd shot

SC David - What brand/where did you buy your clear corners, I want to get those 'style' ones (clear, but you can see the amber a little), do they look good lit up?

Absolutely amazing photos... how did you get the tires so clean/black? and was the backdrop initially just a white floor and walls? Again, its spectacular :)

p.s. are these your photos or the photographer's copyright? Be careful about submitting others' work to a magazine...

Easier to fix in P-shop than lift and turn on studio floor.

Cool stuff there Qube! It is fine to photoshop the pictures, just as long as it is not for profit. For that reason, it wouldn't be right to submit these for any contest since they're not my work. I could always ask the photographer to submit on my behalf, I suppose, or vice versa. Definitely sounds like something to consider. I forgot to say that this was all done by Academy of Art students, and I helped them out by showing up last minute when another person cancelled, and my reward was the pictures.

Is your car really that perfect when looking closely at it? I am stunned by how immaculate it is. Post the pictures in a car ad and sell it for $50,000.In direct sunlight it doesn't look anywhere near as nice. There are plenty of blemishes, swirl marks, small door dings, etc. It's in pretty good condition, but the lighting really made it look stunning. The raw pictures looked good on their own, but they were post processed as well. Most of the post processing was combining pictures taken with longer exposures and shorter exposures to get parts of the car right. The second photographer took out my plate, since I was complaining about wanting the plate out of the shot. What I meant was that I wanted the delete bracket to replace the plate, but I'm pretty sure he thought I meant I didn't want my plate shown to the class, or something along those lines. So he took it out, but replaced it with a solid black panel which didn't look quite right IMO, so I smoothed it out and tried to make it less obvious by going over that area making it look like a continuation of the bumper.

Anyway, I think I might take your advice and post it up on eBay. But I think I'll post it as a rare 535i 5 speed with only 10,000 original miles. Full documentation of work done to it, of course. $30,000 sounds fair :)

SC David - What brand/where did you buy your clear corners, I want to get those 'style' ones (clear, but you can see the amber a little), do they look good lit up?The corners were from eBay. I don't remember who sold them to me though, but they were cheap. I put an amber bulb in there, instead of painting it silver since I like the orange tint it gives from some angles. They light up just like the stock corners.

Absolutely amazing photos... how did you get the tires so clean/black? and was the backdrop initially just a white floor and walls? Again, its spectacular. The tires were done up with tire dressing with a foam applicator. The backdrop consisted of a wide "U" shaped, rounded off wall. Kind of looked like a skateboard half pipe. The rounded angles at the bottom eliminate the hard lines of walls, making the entire backdrop appear to be solid white. The car was first driven into this backdrop on a bunch of construction paper to ensure that there are no tire marks on the painted floor. BUT, we ended up having to move it on the floor without protection anyway, and the floor was repainted afterward.
