Hi

Got a check engine light on tonight, I did the pedal pump test and got back code 1222 which is lambda control 1. I understand this is probably the o2 sensor but which one? A while ago, I took my car to the stealership with a check engine light and they diagnosed a faulty o2 sensor (didn't tell me front or back) as I was driving home the engine light went off. It came back on today with that code. I plan on fixing it myself but need to know whether it's the front or back o2.
If anyone can help, it's appreciated.

...but your problem may not just be O2 sensor. Code 1222 can indicate O2 sensor out of range, which could mean massive vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum hoses first, including the plenum hose from the airbox to the throttle body, for leaks or cracks. Then search here for code 1222 issues. You'll find a lot.

I noticed today that the crank case hose had come loose, would this cause it? Also, the car is really low on gas due to me taking it off my insurance and it being garaged.

Yep but a vacuum leak would generally idle slightly different - but with you garaging it you may or may not notice it.

I wish that were the case, but after I reseated the hose, the code and light were still there.

That code will be there for like 100 miles. Clear the codes!

Or, simply replace the O2 sensor for like $65 as precaution - it prob needs it if it ISNT failed.

I know on the e34 m50, there's only supposed to be one o2 sensor, but everytime I try to search for one, it offers front or back. Any ideas?

Disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and the CEL should go out. If it comes back then hose wasn't the problem. Make sure you have the radio code. I don't know how you extracted the code, but if you used the "stomp test", you can reset the CEL by holding gas pedal to floor for 10 sec(?) after extracting codes.


I wish that were the case, but after I reseated the hose, the code and light were still there.
