Yesterday I snagged a black sport seat form a 540i/6, and I will be grabbing the passengers side in a few days. Stupid me didn't do my research first, and assumed it was plug and play. It's not, and the seat wouldnt move. Luckily for me I'm not that tall and it's in a position where I can still be comfortable. Today, after a bunch of searching, I came across this:

One thing to remember when installing this type of seat (or any
E32/E34 memory seat, for that matter) is that the memory module
requires a memory wiring harness, and the seats won't move without
either of the aforementioned elements. Not a difficult proposition,
but another item to consider. My writeup on converting my non-memory
10/89 535 to memory seats/mirrors/column is in progress, hopefully to
be published on bmw4life.com in the near future.

I had similar longevity issues with leatherique.

Best, Whit

Has anyone else swapped in sport seats and adapted the memory module? Could I just take the wiring from the 540 (it's a parts car) and wire it into my 535? FWIW I'm doing the swap from an 11/95 build date 540i/6 into an 11/88 build date 535, non memory non heated.
