First, thanks so much to Jay (Multiplex on bimmerforums.com) for lending me the lift time once again and letting me borrow his bandsaw! We managed to make my exhaust in about < 2hrs. Its 3.0" mandrel bends welded straight no cat to a dynomax 3" in 3" out muffler with a quick and easy stainless steel 3.0" tip. We fabbed the mounts for the muffler custom and the mounts to the underbody custom. Works great. Not the QUIETEST setup out there, but compared to an open down pipe, its great! Car drives from idle much better and feels like it has more power (clutch slips sooner haha). I can now hear the open wastegate light up and the tial valve much better. Thanks again Jay!

Thinkin about doing a 3.5" tip, but for now its fine.

This is what the "exhaust" looked like beforehand. I dunno if you can see the soot down the under body of the car, but yeah.

And the open wastegate:

The paint look a little funny to the left of you lisence plate, is that just the picture?

Thats reflection of the backside of the plate or something in the background - no issue with paint - you can see in the other pic its fine.

Noob question time:

How come you had to ditch the dual tips for this new setup?

Practical question:

How do you like those Kumho's in the rain and bad weather...if you even bother driving the car in bad weather, that is?

Looks awesome! Any links to videos of your car or sound clips?

sleeper look!
I would take it for a 518 or a 520 because of the single tip.

A turboed M50b25 deserves more than that.

Are you only running one straight through muffler Jon?

Keep the exhaust how it is, I wouldn't go with a bigger tip.

Also, COME ON JON!!! Where's the euro trim?

Most turbo exhausts end in a single tip because thats how 3.0" exhaust flows best. Even the TCD exhaust is a single tip.

See? Its crazy how similar my exhaust looks haha.

Good, i would be sad if anything happened to your paint.

Jon,

With no cat how is your car going to pass emissions? Does your state not test cars after a certain age (like NC now)?

They do test for emissions here... for some reason my car passes....;)

I believe there are two reasons your car passes emissions. Both have pictures of Andrew Jackson on them.

That speaks well for your tuning.
Leave the tip as is, or try to dummy up a stock look. That thing is quite a sleeper.
Fix that clutch and give us some drag or lap times!!

Nearly all cars should pass emission with no cat.

Jon--your car needs an M5 license plate surround--I think it would look fantastic. Nice looking exhaust and great lookin car--very impressive what you've done to it

LOL what?

Hehe, no doubt ?? Like what ?... a one cylinder acetone burning engine ??
Get real here, The only decent HP engines that pass emissions are on an emissions test tune program due to their stand alone ECU's or they have a station Mgr. in their "back pocket"....;)
All others are requiring cats to burn off their unspent fuels.

Still I could lean my engine out to 18.0:1 and have it run on the dyno and try and pass the sniff test, but the leaner you go, the less power you have, and thus the more throttle you need to put down, defeating the purpose.
