After searching for a while, I got a very nice Getrag G290/5 gearbox specially designed for the M30 big six used on the Alpina B10 Bi-turbo. This unit is very stout, with the basic box used on the 850csi. Been doing a bit of research into fitting in and wanted to share in case anyone has done this and can give me pointers.

This G290/5 for the B10BT is designed for the M30 engine bellhousing pattern, has a standard 535i 29mm x 10 spline pattern input shaft and 12mm pilot bearing, so all the front end interfaces are plug and play for my current set up.

However, the rear uses the biggest BMW output flange and guibo from an 850csi (110mm PCD x 14mm bolts). Also, I am not sure about the overall length. Since I already run a G260/6 from a 535i, I wondered if someone knows the overall length of the 260 from bellhousing face to output flange face (my car is in a shop not close to me a the moment so I cant get to it).

As far as the driveshaft, it will need some work as it needs a bigger front flange. I am in search of 3 lug flange from the front of a manual 850i driveshaft, which I expect to be rare as rocking horse ****, so plan B is to machine a custom flange and weld it onto my existing srive shaft. Does anyone know where there might be an 850i breaking?

Hi Beetos, long time no speak. How much was your new gearbox and where did you acquire it from? Tell us about your results with your new ECU.

Hey Kriss,
Got the box out of the uk. It will be perfect for my car and is the stongest box you can get for an M30 (stonger than the G280 M5 box). The car is getting an Autronic SM4 and 500R CDI fitted. Before we started the fit up, it span a solid 470 rwhp with the old haltech. Once the SM4 is in, well be seeing how much we can get out of the GT30, but 500 rwhp should be possible.

Any manual 850i's breaking over east?

500 isnt going to come out of a GT30. GT35 or 40 territory there ;)

That big guibo looks a lot like the ones in my W126 Mercs - could be an easy way to get the yoke you need too.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it.

Dunno about the PCB (wasn't crawling into the wet bushes for anyone) - but the overall diameter on a Mercedes W126 V8 guibo is 154mm or so

Do you know of any decent sites I can check the MB bolt pattern? sometimes they list this. Wonder if MB have a site like the OEM bmw site for parts listings. Looking for 110mm PCD yolk, cheers.
