Just kidding about the part nine...

So yeah, I was thinking - $250 for a freaking wideband LCD AFR gauge, or maybe something better...

That's called MegaView - may not look like much to some people, but its pretty f'ing sweet. I finished building it this afternoon and got home and got it going. It scrolls all the informatoin across the VFD. Yes, VFD.. not LCD... this is a vacuum flourescent screen - aka VERY bright and legible! You can read the lettering from well past the back seat, very clear. I am going to make a little panel there in front of the shifter and mount a button. This can be paused at anytime to monitor one variable or more, plus if you want, you can use 2 buttons as increment, decrement to actually tune your VE table etc on the go. Crrraaaaaaaaaaaazy.

I like it.

About 1/2 the cost of a wideband gauge

Jon, can you hook up the megasquirt system to the in-car pc and read the sensor values that way? If so why bother with one of these?

Yes you can - but that means youre driving around with a touch screen logged in that can edit any variable of your car by mistake. Imagine my gf or friends trying to change songs....

Jon,

That onboard computer running XP is pretty sweet and looks clean. Is it practical and useful? What do you use it for?

Yeah, that's a clean install. How do you type on it? Do you have a write up on how you installed it?

Pretty cool. I think you could even make use of the area beneath the ash tray where people tend to put boost gauges, and where the ASC button is in later E34's.

mp3car.com

Yeah, I found that site in my new quest to research car computers. I'm a bit of a geek and have been running linux and fooling around with home automation since about '98. I can just imagine me trying to come up with perl scripts that combine motion sensors, pre-recorded warnings and my car alarm.

Damn you JonK! ;)
