Well, just got back from a tow truck ride...again.

Was going down the highway, about 110 kph, and all of a sudden...bang, redline......coolant temp warning on....

I pull to the side, wait 10 minutes, no go, after it starts, 2 minutes and it starts creeping back up to the redline.

Back in April, I had a new w/pump, fan clutch t/stat put in and a pressure test done, all fine. Recently, new belts, MOTUL oil, plugs, the works. The car was working great since April... Needle at the halfway mark, never budge, was like that all summer...

WTF happened...? I know it's not the t-stat cause they fail in the open position. Beside, when I turned the heater on, it blew cold, even with the engine close to the redline. Heater was working this morning. Same symptoms as last time so I suspect the w/pump...again. No leaks anywhere and plenty of coolant fluid.

Has this ever happened to anybody, 2 pumps in a short time? Any other thoughts?

It's a 95 525 auto M50tu 163200km.

I don't know the brand but I don't think it's OEM. I know the fan clutch is. I'm going now in the garage to take it off and I'll see...

Well, it's the pump. I remember when I got it, I asked for metal impeller but we were told this was a new composite impeller and it replaced the metal ones. It's not OEM but I can't see any logo or name on it. Maybe when I get the fan clutch off (don't have a 32mm wrench)

It's cheap shitty plastic if you ask me... Come monday morning, I'll be on the warpath with this...

cut back on the RTV. Dont get a Geba pump as Winfred says.

Wow, thanks.

I've heard all the stories but never actually witnessed the damage. Hope you can get some satisfaction from your parts dep.

Good luck with it,

i don't like rtv on rubber seals, usually makes them leak in my experence, clean and lube with a little coolent and it'll slide right in

I'm guessing rtv is the orange goo used as a seal... I didn't install that pump so... I rarely use that stuff, I usually let the gaskets do their work... I already cleaned the housing, waiting for the new pump and o-ring...
