Another one of these stories.... :)

A friend of mine had his lady in the car and we both rolled up to a spot light. He decided he wanted to test his 2006 Jag against a 11 year older BMW 530i Auto...

So we take off, (me in sport mode S4) and by the time I hit 40mph, he's a car length ahead of me!

But wait.... :-D

I look at his car and it seems like he's braking.... but he's not. At 80mph I'm 3 car lengths ahead. These cars give people that false sense of hope when taking off from the line. Yes, we're heavy and slow to start, but once we do, its all over.

Makes me feel good about this car. :) And I'm keeping it! No matter how much more money I need to put into it to get it together.

His car:

P.S. it was 4am on the nicest, straightest 6 lane street in Philadelphia. (Had to keep it as safe as possible)

that chrome jaguar front plate is weighing the jag down... not fair

..I see them on the used car lots going for less $$ than I'd expected... though same can be said for our cars...

..about 2 years ago I was installing new motor/tranny mounts and some crusty old guy come up to me grumbling about "son you wasing you money put'n 'em motor mounts on a brand new car...." I just said "sir, she's 11 years old w/over 100K on the clock..." he went "no ****..."

Well anyway what I wanted to ask is whether that Jag was to 2.5L version...?

Congrats!

P.S. - what kills me, newly relocated to the south... is everyone w/these "Big Bad Dodges" (Bill R?) w/the 5.7 liter engines... but then I remember, I'm in a BMW, it's clean, it's PAID, she cruises smooth and w/class, style, and grace....

Got in a buddy's '03 Impala SS today at lunch... he loves it but I simply wasn't impressed w/all the plastic, fit, finish, etc... I like my E34 (and she's got the baby 6..) ;)

I have to find out what version it is. I agree with you, I have some similar stories about people being so surprised when I tell them what year the car is. They expect it to be at least a '00.

I like the Dodges, wanted a magnum for a while due to exterior look and hemi.... then I sat inside. Same feeling. Its UGLY! inside. Tooo much plastic, just looks, for lack of a better word, WACK! I love the engines and the potential it has... but they need to redo the interior.

I just don't know why ALL ... yes ALL American cars have so sterile, plasticky and disgusting interiors. Sure, they can mask it with some chrome and fake wood, but it just doesn't have any really substance or class.

That Jag look really nice, it needs to be green though. Congrats on the "kill."

Well the X type is nothing to get too worked up about. It's basically a hopped up Mazda6. I test drove a bright red 3.0 stick and really liked it though. The sport seats were great and it had AWD. Like our BMW's they look a lot more expensive than they are.

Yea, this one is priced at around $32,000 base.... still 4 times the cost of mine. :) and 11 years newer. :) Its a good feeling to beat a NEW car with a stock "classic" as some may call it.

I agree, save the 'vette (which still has kind of a cheap interior), American cars suck balls. I just don't get how we as an industrialized giant can build such **** as far as cars go. Back when, Cadillac used to be the Benz (hell, maybe Rolls) of the day, now forget it. I think I'll keep my 17 year old Bimmer.

I don't know how they can put the 'Jaguar' name to them. It's a RWD Ford Mondeo with a Rover-esque body on it. It may as well be a Skoda (VW).
Now if it was an old XJ6 it would be a true Jag!

Cheers,

Shaun

No, it's a four wheel(sorry "all" wheel) drive car. Someone at Jag drew the line when it came to having a front driver. Being stuck with the Mondeo platform they made it "all" wheel drive. I'll bet the leaping cat would rather just jump off.
Another storied british marque down the toilet, or at least circling the bowl.

what do you guys think of puttin it from auto to M and startin from 1,then to 2nd about at 6000rpm then to 2 and same thing to 3? a buddy of mine told me thats how he used to race his automatic, sounds dumb to me but i dunno?

you want your next post to read

Hey guys my trans just died....

I'd take it easy on these old girls, too many slipping, no forward gears and dead trans threads popping up.

I've heard that's a sure fire way to kill the tranny....but reports are sketchy on this topic. My 530i actually has the sport feature, when I place it in S4 (right beneath D). Tranny shifts at about 6000 rpm by itself, each gear 1st-3rd.

It will already do that if you hold down the kickdown switch.

Cheers, ShaunLMAO, YES that X-Jaguar design has skoda-esque overtones doesn't it? :D maybe they'll make a version taht can also float (and has with a propeller at the back) like that other flop from the 60s...

Heh, Just to stir the old 530 vs 535 pot, if it was one of our 535s instead of saj3ns 530, we'd have had him pegged right from the start- and we might have gotten another length on him even :)

hehe.... are the 535's really that much quicker off the line than the 530?
