Thinking about a BBQ meet for people in BRISBANE QLD

Since now we have a handful of members in brisbane, I think its time to think about organising some kind of small get together to meet and greet. I was thinking a BBQ at simpson's falls at the base of Mt. Cootha. What are the other brisbanite's and people from close by's thoughts?

I'm thinking that this time (with all the babes Rob's due to organise) that we could do a BMW Babewash, Brisbane style. Someone wil have to bring a cam. Matty would make an excellent MC. Someone will have to arrange the buckets, a drive-in paddling pool and the waterworks.

I'll manage the washing staff, teach them what to do (it'll be a hard job but someone has to do it)... just need plenty of good Maguires and a nice place to 'do it'.

It'll really upset the Germans if we post it on the Web, they really go in for this sort of thing.

So anyway i suppose the meet has been shifted to my place, there is ample parking in a church car park across the road, although there will be room for about 3 cars in the driveway. unfortunately if you park on the street i live in someone will turn your car into a hood ornament.

We will probably meet up at mt. cootha or simpsons falls first. or for the out of towners whereever they are comfortable with. there will be a high probability that we will head to a local perhaps later on in the evening probably the paddington tavern.

Mid September huh, yeah I will be able to make it for sure. Rob why don't we do a cruise/drive? We could do a run around the Gold Coast Hinterland aka Russ Hinze Raceway (Great road and we can open 'em up a little), only thing to remember is it will be the weekend and there will be lots of bikes wherever we go, or we can do a run along the Boonah - Beaudesert road, this is also a great run and we can have a beer at the pub at Boonah and then head back.
These are all great drives and not too far from Brisbane, I know most of them as I ride out and down that way alot.

Let me know if you have any ideas, I won't need to stay for the night, but I will come and drink :D

I tried to talk him out of it citing his education was more important but he flatly refused and said that his E34 buddies were more imortant. This is not supposed to happen at Uni any more, but having met you I can say this is defaitnely the case... you should either repeat the year and bare your ass in public to all the pollies that got decent uni educations for free and voted to charge the next generation so they could leech more out of the system for themselves, or you should give up now and stay uneducated and well within the mediocrity we call modern Australian society. :D

On second thoughts, don't do that, you're likely to get pissed off one day and drive one of those souped up Lebherr's out (of the Brisbane High Performance Crane racing Centre Matty was just telling me about) and through the door sof parliament House. yeah nah, not really that computer techno savvy, i still use dial up at home :p I developed a mistrust of computers after doing too much computational fluid dynamics at university. As well as programming a suspension simulation and various other random brain meltdowns.
So i don't know what kind of "setup" i am meant to have, would have thought the beer would be enough but I guess I have to be some kind of renaissance man all weekend.:p :p

Well I do believe the party is getting organised. I've not heard from Mattyb or Tony, but Paul and I are getting very organised. This morning he came by and we finished off his very smart Prevenetative Maintenance on the Nazi Princess' cooling system: All new pipes, coolant and radiator so she'll get us to and fro with nary a whisper.

Greg? Phil? John? Is no-one else going to join us? Paul and I are going to abduct Kristian unless Mattyb beats us to it. Imagine a dark bimmer pulling up beside you with its boot popped and a menacing, balaclavad Mattyb emerging to bundle you efficiently in. Poor Kristian!

But I don't know what's worse, a 12 hour trip in the boot of Matty's 540 or putting up with Paul and I all the way up there... :D

Rob; apart from the beer that you can manage with no problem, get some blade steaks, thin sausages, roma tomatoes and lettuce. A few french sticks, real butter and garlic. Some sliced multigrain bread, fresh basil, corriander, zuchini and 1kg of cheddar, Milk, tea and coffee.

You probably have half of it. We will be there quite late by the looks of things, getting away early enough may not be that easy... :) Nick

Yeah i realised there are a few things around the house already :-) anyway I'll goto the shops on saturday morning to pick up some more so its fresh.

I will be at the gf's place at west end tonight, was thinking you guys could ring me when you're approaching logan and meet me in west end. the riverside expressway northbound is not open this weekend due to road works so you will be taking a detour through south brisbane anyway. From there i can take you to my place and you don't need to stress over finding it.

PS if one of the brisbane boys can bring some salad it'd be good, I am useless at making salads.

Unfortunately due to things getting in the way for alot of people coming from NSW and QLD. And after discussions with nick we think in the interests of including everyone it would be better to postpone the meet.

However I think it is best if we do organise a smaller meet and greet just for the people from SE Queensland so people can put faces to names etc. which we will organise in the next few weeks whether it be just meeting up for coffee or at a pub.

I'm posting as it's really getting late.

Have just spoken to Rob, Matty, Kristian and Paul. Rob said he'd post the news too.

Given the fact that so many people that wanted to come couldn't this weekend and the sad fact that today two more have had to pull out, it's pretty much left Paul and I as to be the last of the NSW contingent. There are a few from Queensland coming, and Rob is going to contact them to discuss the options for the weekend. However, a raincheck is what I suggested to Rob. However this depends on when Rob can make his parents' facilities 'available' again.

Matty suggested (he was unable to make due to the 3 days needed) that we at least head to his place however, grab some beers and go fishing (or something). This way we could still get together, have a few beers and perhaps get online and teleconference with the Queenslanders.

Whilst we are greatly disappointed that things are looking this way, this might be the only possible option, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Matty for the offer. So for now, Paul and I are headed to Mattys tomorrow and we keenly await Rob's suggestion on when/how we can make the next Brisbane meet.

I'm hoping that a postponement will make it easier for others to attend. Please pipe up and let us know if this means you.

But for now, if anyone wants to come to Mattybs tomorrow, just get yourselves organised and let Matty know. We're headed up first thing, Paul is dropping by my place here so we're hitting the freeway at Hornsby at 10am. We're expecting to be up there for the day and will staythe night perhaps- depending on Matty's questionable hospitality that is!

Again, my apologies to Rob and the whole Queensland crew, I ahve to say it was real close but a cloud of bad luck just blew in on everyone this time. Let's see if we can get it together
again though and make something of the enormous effort Rob has gone to. Just think, he'll still have beers in the fridge!
