I have been working with my dealer to get a part number for this bolt. The large end goes into the head. The small end holds the valve cover via the cap nut (e.g., the valve cover slides onto the bolts). We can't find this in the parts database. Anybody have any ideas??? Surely I'm not the only person that has stripped this bolt.

First picture is the bolt removed (looks like M6 on one side / M7 on the other). Second picture is the bolt still in the valve cover.

Thanks in advance.
Glenn

11 & 12 are definitely the cap nut and gasket for the bolt. But #10 is the stud bolt for the coils. It looks like they just left it off the diagrams (also checked the diagram for the cylinder head). I left one of my stripped out bolts at the parts counter so they can ask around. We found something similar on the 6 cylinder engine but it may not be the right length.

What would the shop do if they had to replace some of these bolts? I was gonna start being 'obnoxious guy needing a part' but I decided to be patient since the guy is really busting his butt trying to find a $2 bolt for me.

The closest thing I can find is #10 on the attached (M50). I guess I will have them order it and hope it is the correct size. This sucks. I need my car and wasn't anticipating a delay because we couldn't identify a bolt.

Bill - thanks. We were flipping back and forth through these diagrams for about 30 minutes and I finally had to leave to get back to work. I'm calling him now to give him the correct part #. I'm not trying to call him an idiot - I have to admit that I spent quite a bit of time at realoem trying to find it myself.

Yes, thanks Bill. I looked at the valve cover diagram and the cylinder head diagram and then figured that I was not the only person who had ever needed this bolt and searched here.
