So I just took my car(M50) to Bimmerworks today to get the guibo and center support bearing done, and while driving home noticed I was getting super crappy gas milage, and now I think there is something wrong with the ICV. It goes from 500 up to about 1000 and back down. Could this just be a dirty ICV, and if so, where is it located and is is very difficult to clean?

This had to happen TONIGHT when I plan on making a 950 mile drive tomorrow back to WI from PA, dammit!

Would that cause the surging idle? And where on the exhaust should I look?

id guess a torn intake boot from raising and lowering the back of the engine/tranny, should cost around $30 and if it broke that easy it was ready to replace anyway

as the pipes run from the motor, it's the only thing with wires on the exhaust system.

IVC would cause crappy idle, but because someone was under the car and the exhaust was dropped to reach the shaft...that's were I would start.

Ivc is easy to claen just shoot it out with throttle body cleaner

if the 02 was unhooked the computer would just set a code and run on the preset map, that's why i bet the air boot is busted between the throttle body and the afm and it's sucking unmetered air

You guys are awesome. I'm calling them tomorrow morning at 9 sharp to have them see what's wrong with it. And I surely hope they can look at is ASAP because I'm leaving to go to WI tomorrow afternoon and will not be happy if i'm getting 14 mpg.

And the boot is only about 3 years old and is fine.
