hello everyone. i am here with a sort of newb question:

i need to change my break pads. i have been told it is an easy thing to do at home.

i have a 90 535i, what pads would i use?
and finally, how diffucult is it ACTUALLY, and on a BMTroubleyou?

first thing i ever did in my driveway, very straightforward. i took a few beer brakes while changing my breaks :p

Cake walk. Read E34.net, make sure you have the tools, and try to keep it to 3 beers per side.

Brake Pad Replacement.

Well... here are some pictures of the process on the right rear wheel. We did a casual Tech Session on an E34 M5, maybe this will help a little. The pictures are in correct sequence of what you need to do.

If you have to ask this of question about "brakes" then I suggest VERY STRONGLY that you have an expert do it. It may save someone's life. I'm not trying to be a smartarse. I'm just concerned about your future well being.

make sure to do a fluid bleed to get the fluid from the calipers out of the lines.

Ok, I'm no mechanic, but I am trying to learn. Bently manual should be here Monday, but I have a quick question.

My car sounds like a G.e.n.u.i.n.e. rattletrap bouncing down the lovely roads we have here. I am 99% sure it is at least one rear caliper. In the diagram, part number 7 on the rear caliper is the anti-rattle clip right? Would replacing/installing these stop all that noise? Do these wear out? Could the brakes have been re-assembled without it? I am going to try pulling the wheels this weekend to have a look, but wanted to get a few things answered first.

This may have been covered before, but I figured this was enough in-thread.
