Just thought I'd share this one with you guys to see how it compares with how you do things in the USA........, what would this fetch if it were a USA spec car selling in USA ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&item=280017783326&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

Might have to change my sig again this time next week, if it goes :-(

We don't have the 'M Sport' model in the UK but I assume the only main difference is the sports seats ? which are too high for me. I had those on my previous 540i and my head was on the roof lining ! :-(

If anyone looks at the photos, I'd be interested in opinions as to whether the E39 wheels suit the car...

The bumpers and the wheels and brakes are different as well.

Bumpers in US different to UK anyway and my wheels replaced with E39, but whats different about the (stock) wheels (are they M5/throwing star ?) and the brakes out of interest ?

Personally, i do not like the wheels.

M Sports have the Early M5 brakes.

They're equipped with M-System IIs (Throwing Stars)

They've also got the suspension from the Nürburgring Package in the Euro M5s, equipped with EDCIII and more aggressive geometry. Much more thorough than the 'Sport Pkg' in the ordinary 540i.

I would not prefer the Self Leveling rear end if making the choice.

Ah well, no one likes it then. There is no choice here, the only 'next model up' (in UK) is the M5 so good job its not for sale there then - lol. But thanks for your comments :-)

M5 badge? That's weak.

He also did a splendid job getting the production #s completely wrong.

Car now sold on a re-list, well deposit in hand at least. Will be sad to part with it, but needs must and all that... Maybe an E39 when I get back from the states. Any views on E39 vs E34 (540i) ? I test drove an E39 once and found it a bit 'pipe and slippers' in comparison. Nice and smooth, but seemed 'lacking in something', not speed or power, just didn't feel I had the same 'connection' with the road that the E34 gives but couldn't really put my finger on 'why?'.

Same here. They don't look good on an E34.

They look better on the pocket when you come to buy metrics ! They handle well too.

In the USA, the bumper covers are the same as that car. That car just seems to have an aftermarket lip added to the stock bumper.

And no. That car is not an //M540i.

The real //M540i has the full M-Technic kit (just like the M5), M Parallel wheels (Canada) or Throwing Stars (USA), and an M-Technic interior (aka Sport seats). It also did not come in bronzit or champagne.

Real M540i fetch far upwards of US$12K (if 6spd and Canadian model) and are quite rare in these parts.

M540i/540i M-Sports are equipped with the 'M-Technic kit' but the front bumper/spoiler is slightly different than what's on the M5. Along with this, the interior features more than just 'Sport seats', especially on the M540i.

Also, 540i M-Sports fetch about ~$12kUSD, M540i's typically see higher figures.

I looked for one when I was looking at purchasing a 540i there were none around here. I am pretty happy with my 540i even though its not the M-Sport model.

Also where can one purchase the front spoiler lip that the M-Sport models had?

Also to add, I believe only Canada got the M540i, and the US got the M-sport, or is it the other way around?

In Europe we got 540i Limousine with M-sport package that included following on model year 1995-96 cars (yes a low number was MY96);

M-technic bumpers (just like M540i/540i M-Sport)
8+9x17" Style 5 with 235/45 front and 255/40 rear
Black inner roof (just like some M5: s)
Birds eye maple wood Graphit
Sport seats with part leather Millpoint (lower extra cost to get leather)
M-sport suspension
Option to be able to order the rear spoiler (just M-pack and M5 was able to do this in Germany)
Shadowline

Colors available were (metallic standard);

Avus blue
Daytona violet
Cosmos black
Arktis silver
Alpin white III
Bright red

Interior was;

Standard; Millpoint part leather

Option; Leather in colors

Black
Silver grey
Light silver grey

Exactly the same package for 530i V8, the 6cyl had 15" Style 5 instead of 17"

Older M-pack cars (called M-Technic sport package) didn't have black inner roof and hadn't Birds eye maple wood and had Michelin TRX tires.

You also could get full M540i/540i M-Sport equipment in Europe as an Individual options I know about 5 cars with all or part of the equipment.
